Lumberjacks shut out Phantoms

For the second straight night, the Youngstown Phantoms’ power-play unit struggled, failing to put the puck past Muskegon goalie Brandon Bussi.

Bussi stopped all 33 shots he faced as the Lumberjacks blanked the Phantoms, 3-0, on Saturday night at Covelli Centre.

Phantoms goaltender Jon Mor stopped 30 shots.

The Lumberjacks (4-0-0-0, 8 points), the first-place team in the USHL’s Eastern Conference, connected for two power-play goals in five opportunities. The Phantoms (0-3-0-1, 1 point) went 0-for-5 with the man-advantage.

The first goal came 11 minutes into the game. The Lumberjacks capitalized on a 4-on-3 as Daniil Guschin scored with assists from Hunter Skinner and Alex Yakovenko.

In the second period, Nolan Sullivan scored with an assist from Brock Bremer.

Skinner scored the other power-play goal in the third period.
