Gergels marking 65th anniversary

YOUNGSTOWN

Mr. and Mrs. Peter Gergel will be honored this weekend at a family cookout in observance of their 65th wedding anniversary.

Mr. Gergel and the former Patricia Preksta were married Oct. 10, 1953, at Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church.

They are the parents of Greg (Michelle) Gergel of Orlando, Fla.; Doug (Juli) Gergel of Troy, Mich.; and Patty (David Gilman) Gergel of Jersey City, N.J.

The couple also have two grandchildren, Lindsey and Zack Gergel of Troy.

Mrs. Gergel, as a member of the Holy Trinity Guild, edited the second edition of the church’s Book of Golden Recipes in honor of the church’s centennial. Her mother, Sadie Preksta, wrote the first edition in the 1970s. She also was employed as an administraor with the DeBartolo Corp.

A World War II veteran of the U.S. Air Force, Mr. Gergel worked at Truscon Steel.
