Dana orchestra in concert

The Dana Symphony Orchestra’s first concert of the season will take place at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Powers Auditorium, 260 W. Federal St.
Led by conductor Stephen L. Gage, the orchestra, which numbers close to 60, will begin with Leonard Bernstein’s popular Overture to Candide in celebration of Bernstein’s 100th birthday.
The concert will continue with Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5 in E Minor.
Tickets are $7 ($6 for students and senior citizens, and free for anyone with a valid Youngstown State University identification card) and are available by phone at 330-744-0264, online at deyorpac.org and at the DeYor Performing Arts Center box office.
The Dana School of Music is celebrating its 150th anniversary this season.
Founded by William Henry Dana, the music school has produced generations of professional musicians.
The school’s alumni perform in prestigious orchestras, military and jazz bands, and contemporary ensembles; teach in elite conservatories; and develop future musicians in primary and secondary schools throughout the United States.
