DETROIT
Artemi Panarin scored midway through overtime, lifting the Columbus Blue Jackets to a victory over the Detroit Red Wings. Cam Atkinson and Josh Anderson gave Columbus the lead over the first two periods. Rookie Dennis Cholowski and Tyler Bertuzzi pulled the Red Wings into a tie with goals in the second period. Joonas Korpisalo stopped 18 shots for the Blue Jackets. Detroit’s Jimmy Howard made 36 saves.

ST. LOUIS
Patrik Laine, Blake Wheeler and Kyle Connor each had a goal and an assist, and the Winnipeg Jets beat the St. Louis Blues. Adam Lowry and Brandon Tanev also scored and Mark Scheifele had a pair of assists as the Jets won their fifth season opener in six years. Connor Hellebuyck made 41 saves and improved to 5-2 against St. Louis in his career. Vince Dunn scored late in the third period and Allen made 20 saves as the Blues lost their season opener for the first time in four years.
Blackhawks 4, Senators 3, OT
OTTAWA, ONTARIO
Patrick Kane scored 38 seconds into overtime to give the Chicago Blackhawks a victory over the Ottawa Senators. Alex DeBrincat, Jonathan Toews and Brent Seabrook also scored, and Cam Ward stopped 22 shots. Maxime Lajoie scored for Ottawa in his NHL debut, Colin White and Zack Smith added goals, and Craig Anderson made 37 saves. The teams combined for five goals in the first period.
Bruins 4, Sabres 0
BUFFALO, N.Y.
Jaroslav Halak stopped 32 shots and the Boston Bruins rebounded from a season-opening shutout with a win over the Buffalo Sabres. Brad Marchand set up all four goals, scored by captain Zdeno Chara, rookie Ryan Donato, David Pastrnak and Patrice Bergeron on an empty-netter. The shutout was the 43rd of Halak’s career, and first since signing with the Bruins in July. Hutton finished with 22 saves.
Islanders 2, Hurricanes 1, OT
RALEIGH, N.C.
Josh Bailey scored a power-play goal 43 seconds into overtime, and the New York Islanders opened the season by beating the Carolina Hurricanes. Valtteri Filppula also scored. Jordan Staal sent it to OT by scoring a deflected goal with 1:35 remaining in regulation for Carolina. Barzal threaded a cross-ice pass from the circle to Bailey, who ended it by snapping the puck past Mrazek. Mrazek stopped 18 shots for Carolina. Thomas Greiss made 45 saves for the Islanders.
Predators 3, Rangers 2
NEW YORK
P.K. Subban scored the tiebreaking goal early in the third period, and the Nashville Predators held on to beat New York and spoil the regular-season debut of new Rangers coach David Quinn. Subban fired a one-timer from beyond the inside edge of the right circle in front of the blue line at 3:28 of the final period to put Nashville ahead. Filip Forsberg and Colton Sissons also scored and Pekka Rinne stopped 34 shots for the Predators. Jesper Fast scored and Henrik Lundqvist had 30 saves for the rebuilding Rangers.

DALLAS
Devin Shore, Alexander Radulov and John Klingberg scored less than two minutes apart in the second period and the Dallas Stars made Jim Montgomery a winner in his NHL coaching debut, beating the Arizona Coyotes. Ben Bishop stopped all 30 shots for his first season-opening shutout and the 25th of his career. A little more than a minute after that, Klingberg skated alone up the right side in 4-on-4 and beat Raanta inside the far post.
