Unseeded Dellick, Struthers duo qualify for D-II districts

BOARDMAN

Unseeded Lanna Dellick won three straight matches Wednesday to seize a spot in next week’s Division II district tournament. The unseeded Struthers duo of Trinity Farrar and Renee Leonard also reached districts with three straight wins. Two Irish doubles teams also qualified for districts. Dellick beat Lakeview’s Molly Stein 6-3, 6-0 and McDonald’s Morgan Golden 6-1, 6-2 to begin her tournament run. Then she defeated Poland’s Sophia Delatore, the tournament’s No. 4 seeded player, 6-4, 6-3. In other matches, Kaytlin Marlatt (Warren JFK), second-seeded Laura Garvin (Lakeview) and third-seeded Paras Kontos (Warren JFK) — the tournament’s top three seeds. Marlatt defeated McDonald’s Maddie Brown 6-4, 6-4 and Lordstown’s Addison Wilson 6-0, 6-2. The result of her match against West Branch’s Abigail Stephens was not available at press time. Garvin beat West Branch’s Ashlyn Pinkerton 6-0, 6-0 and Ursuline’s Claire McDonald by default and then defeated Daniella Mendel of Struthers 6-2, 6-0. Kontos defeated East Palestine’s Trinity Schneider 6-4, 2-6, 6-4, Poland’s Sydney Scotford 6-3, 6-4 and McDonald’s Naomi Domitrovich 7-6 (5), 6-4. The top-seeded doubles duo of Vy Hoang and Lexie Tsudis of Ursuline breezed to the districts by beating Cassidy Brozovich and Haley Protiva of Warren JFK 6-1, 6-0 and West Branch’s Makayala Jennings and Kaylee Stratton 6-0, 6-1. Ursuline’s Anna Morgione and Emma Thornton, seeded No. 3, defeated Salem’s Blake Oller and Samantha Sarginer 6-1, 6-0 and West Branch’s Ashlie Algaier and Emily Algaier 6-0, 6-0. The second-seeded duo of Warren JFK’s Sophia Zamarelli and Caitlin Condoleon advanced by beatting Cardinal Mooney’s Aunnasia Calhoun and Shania McIntosh 6-1, 6-1 and Sruthers’ Natalie Cagno and Chelsea Romack 6-1, 6-2. The unseeded Struthers duo of Farrar and Leonard won their first-round match 6-0, 6-0 against United’s Frankie Heffinger and Lauren Hippely, the Wildcats tandem took down the fourth-seeded Poland team of Ally Andrews and Adeline Schweers 6-3, 7-6 (3). Farrar and Leonard then beat McDonald’s Madi Nolf and Gillian Deak 6-1, 6-2 to qualify for districts. Sectional semifinals and finals will be played Saturday. Howland’s unseeded Francesca Elisco and Kate Li won twice in the Division I sectional at Solon before being eliminated. Elisco and Li beat Kenston’s Kierna Chalmers and Kayla Eastman (scores unavailable) and then took down Shaker Heights Madison Williams and Melis Baltan-Brunet 6-0, 6-2. Elisco and Li then lost a three-set marathon to Mayfield’s third-seeded Shannon McGill and Katerina Ng 6-7, 7-5, 6-3.

POLAND

Logan Baer scored two goals for the Raiders (8-4-1). Zack Schick and Canaan Johnson netted the other goals. Johnson, Quinn Pierson and Mark Naples had assists and goalkeeper Matt Lucas made eight saves.

Mineral Ridge 4, Waterloo 0

ATWATER

Garret Smith scored two second half goals to help Mineral Ridge (10-2) pull away from Waterloo. Smith also scored on a header in the first half, totaling three goals. Ethan Smallsreed also scored for the Rams.

Bristol 6, Mathews 1

VIENNA

Damion Durst scored three goals for Bristol. Luca Petrogalli scored twice and Levi Perry scored once. Dallas Runner scored for Mathews. Anthony Dakin made a save for the Panthers and Mathews’ goalie Ryan Gates stopped nine shots.

Campbell 11, Newton Falls 0

NEWTON FALLS

Henry Meija scored four times and Victor Orozco had a hat trick for Campbell (11-3). Kevin Cisneros, Petros Atsas, Dominic Black and James Burley-Jackson each had a goal. Cisneros also had four assists. Ethan Woodard made five saves for Newton Falls.

Isabell Merlo had a goal on a penalty kick and Ashley Chambers also scored for the Tigers (10-2-2). Kalliopi Gentis had an assist. Gillian McMurray had 17 saves. No Boardman stats were reported. JV: Howland, 5-0.

Janessa Stell scored four goals for Edgewood and Kaleigh Stell also scored. Reese Nale scored for the Warriors and Julie First scored on a penalty kick.

Morgan Carey and Chloe Kalina each picked up a brace as Canfield (12-1-1) has won 10 straight games. Marissa Ieraci, Alexis Bernat, Fiona Lally and Sabrina Goodrich each scored once. The Cardinals outshot the Leopards, 31-0.

HUBBARD

Four different Hubbard players scored goals, as the Eagles rolled past Jefferson. Marysa Chuey, Whitney Hendrix, Lily Sinopoli, and Maya Weser had a goal each. Jefferson goalie Jenna Parkomacki made 10 saves.

BELOIT

Addi Biggs, Olivia McLean and Elizabeth Ostadali scored goals for the Warriors (11-0-2) in their latest victory. McLean, Ostadali and Lexi Biery had assists. Sam Plocher made five saves in the shutout.
