Friends of the Library Canfield Committee will host its annual book sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 13 at the Canfield Library. Proceeds from the book sale are used to benefit the library. New this year will be the addition of a craft show. Craft vendors will have their wares on display for purchase. The public is invited to donate books for the sale and to bring them Oct. 13 from 8 to 9 a.m. during the setup time. Gently used, clean, quality books are appreciated; no encyclopedias, textbooks, or outdated technical or medical books can be accepted. Donated books may only be dropped off early the day of the sale, as the library cannot accept or store donations. The Canfield Committee also will host the second annual mah jongg tournament March 19, 2019, as well as a Spring Tea to be held May 19, 2019. Metroplex Expo Center, will host the Metroplex Holiday Marketplace from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 3 and 4. There will be more than 140 crafters, entertainment and food vendors. Featured entertainment will include Brent Webb, the Master Mind; Cirque du Papier; Pony Tails Petting Zoo; Youngstown Weavers Guild; and Silent Lion. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Sleep in Heavenly Peace, Youngstown Chapter, a nonprofit organization that makes bunk beds for children who have no bed. Salem Regional Medical Center’s Look Nook Gift Shop will host a $5 jewelry sale Oct. 9 through 11 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Shoppers will find a large selection of jewelry by Sosie Designs, including rings, bracelets, necklaces and watches. Niles Historical Society will host the monthly open house of the Ward-Thomas House at 503 Brown St. from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, with the last tour beginning at 4. Salem Community Center is announcing the return of Women’s Night Out scheduled for 4 p.m. Oct. 10. Women’s Night Out is a fundraiser to support the Children’s Fitness Center and Fit Kids program, along with raising awareness of childhood obesity in Columbiana and Mahoning counties. The theme of “An Evening Out With the Girls” will offer women the opportunity to shop and relax. The event will feature entertainment, food, social interaction and designer-handbag bingo. Suzie’s Dogs & Drafts, 34 N. Phelps St., Youngstown, in cooperation with the Rescue Mission of Mahoning Valley, is sponsoring a “Donate a Hot Dog” campaign to help provide food to the area’s homeless population. Throughout the year, Suzie’s customers can donate a hot dog for the hungry and write a note of support. Donations will be matched dog-for-dog by the restaurant. On the second Wednesday of every month, employees will provide a meal and bring all the notes for the overnight residents and meal visitors at the Rescue Mission. The goal is food for the body and encouragement for the spirit. The project is inspired by the shooting death last November of Colin Brown. Brown worked in the restaurant industry, managing newly opened restaurants and helping get them off the ground. He was a volunteer with the Common Wealth Kitchen Incubator in Youngstown, was known for his pay it forward attitude and always helping those in need.

Trinity Playhouse, Stage Left Players, will host “Raising a Glass” event to help “Raise the Roof” at 7 p.m. Saturday at 234 E. Lincoln Way, Lisbon. Proceeds will benefit the new roof that is needed.
