1993: John Senzarin says the Youngstown Board of Education should conduct daily metal-detector searches at The Rayen School and develop alternative schools for unruly students.

Several employees from Strippers Elite of Hudson picket The Vindicator for refusing to run their advertisement, saying they don’t actually “strip,” though they sometimes perform semi-nude. They employed the same tactics against the Kent Stater, the student newspaper at KSU that also refused their ads.

Columbiana County Treasurer Ardel Strabala resigns amid an investigation into $10 million in missing funds.

1978: The Mahoning County grand jury strongly urges a renewed effort to build a joint Mahoning County-City of Youngstown jail.

The American Iron & Steel Institute reports that 1.71 million tons of steel was imported to the U.S. in October, an l8 percent increase over September’s 1.58 million tons. Imports of 17.7 million tons so far in 1978 put the nation on track to exceed the 1977 total of 19.3 million tons.

The Tamarkin Co., pioneer wholesale grocery firm, plans a $5 million expansion of its warehouse on Victoria Road, Austintown, which will create 50 to 55 jobs.

1968: The state will pay Youngstown City Schools $11,106 in reimbursement for past busing of parochial-school students, which will allow the public school district to continue to provide busing for parochial students through the end of the month, while schools are closed due to a lack of funds.

Robert Lamanna, 9, of Youngstown is in serious condition at South Side Hospital after being struck by a truck in front of 3632 South Ave.

Mothers of handicapped children drop plans to drop off their children at Mahoning County commissioners’ offices to gain support for the establishment of county classes for these children.

1943: Three people are killed and three others injured in an automobile accident on Route 433 at Coitsville Road near Bernard Airport. Killed were Mr. and Mrs. Nick Katakis and Anna Katakis. Injured are John and Arthur Katakis and George Nikitakis.

Chaney High Basketeers will start regular practice sessions preparing for Dec. 10 opener at Newton Falls, Coach McPhee announces. Graduation took the team’s stars, but McPhee will build around Bob Fredericks, Bob Pilgrim and Harry Smith.
