First Friday Club of Greater Youngstown will introduce its first Dinner Speaker Series with John Allen at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Avion on the Water Banquet Center, 2177 W. Western Reserve Road, Canfield. John Allen, editor of Crux and senior Vatican analyst for CNN, will speak on “Francis After 5” with an opportunity for questions regarding Pope Francis. Friendly Squares will host its Christmas Dinner Dance on Dec. 8 at the Niles SCOPE Center, 14 E. State St., Niles. Square dancing, which is open to the public, will begin at 7:30 and end at 10 p.m. Gene Hammond and Neil Harner will be the callers and Frankie Hammond will be cuing the line dances. This will be a high/low dance with alternating tips for new dancers currently taking lessons and tips for more experienced dancers. Dress is casual. Cost is $6 per person at the door. Mahoning Valley Young Professionals will host its annual Holiday Gala from 6 to 10 p.m. Dec. 8 at DeYor Performing Arts Center, 260 W. Federal St., Youngstown. Canfield Republican Women’s Club dinner meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday at A La Cart Catering in Canfield. Kevin Lawson will perform the music of Sinatra, Nat King Cole and others. Trumbull County Federated Democratic Women’s Club will have its annual Holiday Celebration and Installation Dinner at Stonebridge Grille and Tavern, 1415 Niles-Cortland Road, at 6 p.m. Monday. Poland Historical Society members and their guests will celebrate the Christmas season at 5:30 p.m. Monday with dinner at the Poland Library, 311 S. Main St., Poland. The society will provide the main meat for the dinner, and members are asked to take either a side dish, casserole or salad or dessert to be shared. Regular meetings at the Little Red Schoolhouse will resume Jan. 15, 2019.

SUPPORT GROUPS

Grief Share Support Group, hosted by Churchill United Methodist Church, 189 Church Hill-Hubbard Road, Liberty, meets at 6 p.m. each Thursday through Dec. 13. Grief Recovery Instructional Support Groups meet at 7 p.m. Tuesdays at the Kelley-Robb-Cummins Funeral Home Care Center, next to the funeral home, on Main Street in Hubbard. The groups are led by Phillip Roland, grief counselor for the funeral home, and are open to anyone who has suffered the loss of a loved one. NAMI Mahoning Valley offers Connections support groups for adults living with mental illness, in a discussion format, to promote self-disclosure in a safe, relaxed, supportive and confidential environment. Connections meets the second and fourth Thursdays of each month at 6 p.m. at Alta Care, 142 Javit Court, Austintown. NAMI Mahoning Valley also offers Family Support Groups that provide information and support for family members and friends of individuals with mental illness. Family groups meet the first Thursday of each month at 11 a.m. at Girard Library, 105 E. Prospect St.; and the second Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. at Alta Care. Dual Diagnosis Group meets the first and third Monday each month at the Homes for Kids office, 165 E. Park Ave., Niles.
