Boys maroon team falls to Poland
The Boardman maroon eighth-grade boys fell to Poland 32-29 in their season opener on Nov. 26. Even in defeat, the momentum and confidence gained will serve the team well for this season. Poland came in as defending AAC middle tier champs, undefeated in regular season and tourney play. Boardman dominated the action for the first three quarters, taking a 22-11 lead late in the third behind a suffocating defense and transition scoring. An injury to point guard Deon Elliott at that point hurt the Spartans significantly in the fourth, with Poland rallying using a press of their own. Brady Depietro hit a 3-point shot with 1:00 left to give the Spartans a 27-26 lead, but they could not hold off Poland in the closing moments. Maroon was led by DePietro with 13 points, 10 rebounds and 3 assists. Elliott also excelled with 10 points, 6 assists, 11 steals and a terrific defensive performance.

The Boardman girls maroon seventh-grade basketball team dropped their first game of the season to Poland Middle School, 31-12, on Nov. 26. Leading scorers for the Spartans were Ava Bosnjak - 8, Leah Evans - 2 and Brooke Yoder - 2. The girls are 0-1
Eighth-grade girls basketball has loss
On Nov. 26, the Boardman Glenwood eighth-grade girls basketball team lost a tough home opener on the road to the Poland Lady Bulldogs 36-31. Glenwood was led by Gia Triveri’s 15 points. Bella Martin also contributed to the scoring effort with six points. Natalie Davis chipped in with five points and Faith Jackson with four, and Cami Goske had one point in the loss.
