Hospital celebrates 10th anniversary

Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley Beeghly campus will celebrate its 10th anniversary of opening from 6 to 11 p.m. Dec. 8 at Mr. Anthony’s Banquet Center, 7440 South Ave. There will be a cocktail party at 6, a champagne toast, formal dinner and program at 7 and dancing, dessert reception and more from 9 to 11. Dress in formal attire.

MVYP is accepting nominations

YOUNGSTOWN

The Mahoning Valley Young Professionals is accepting applications through Friday, with an attached resume.

The application may be found at bit.ly/2P51gj5, on the MVYP website, on social media, or by emailing 25under35@mvypclub.com. All applications will be reviewed by a panel of judges and scored based on career achievements, education and community service.

The top 25 honorees will be announced in December, and the top three MVP’s will be announced at the awards ceremony that will take place Feb. 7, 2019, at Stambaugh Auditorium.

Historical society events for December

NILES

The Niles Historical Society will host its monthly open house of the Ward-Thomas House, 503 Brown St., from noon to 5 p.m. Dec. 2, with the last tour to take place at 4 p.m.

The membership meeting will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Westenfield Room.

The society also will participate in the McKinley Christmas from noon to 4 p.m. Dec. 8, along with the McKinley Birthplace Home, McKinley Memorial Library and McKinley Museum. There will be children’s activities, storytelling, refreshments and tours of the house.

School will host auction Saturday

NEWTON FALLS

Newton Falls Exempted Village Schools will host its annual Tigers 44444 The Holidays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the high school commons, 907 Milton Blvd.

The event is free to the public and will host crafters, Santa and Mrs. Claus, a band and choir concert, a bus filled with canned goods and more.

The annual Holiday Auction will take place at 6 p.m. in the high school.

Tickets may be purchased at the Board of Education, 9091/2 Milton Blvd., for $5 pre-sale and $7 at the door.

Master Gardeners to place wreaths on graves of veterans

NORTH JACKSON

The Master Gardeners from the Ohio State Extension Service will place wreaths on graves of veterans buried in the North Jackson Cemetery on North state Route 45 at 10 a.m. Dec. 8.

Any families who have veterans buried there will be offered the opportunity to place a wreath on the family members’ grave.

All who wish to donate toward the project may send a check to OSU Extension, Master Gardener Program, Wreaths for Jackson Township on the memo line, and mail to 460 S. Broad St., Canfield, OH 44406.
