49ers cut Foster after arrest

The San Francisco 49ers released linebacker Reuben Foster on Sunday morning, hours after he was arrested at the team hotel in Tampa, Florida, on charges of domestic violence.

An arrest report Saturday night from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s office said Foster was booked into jail at 11:11 p.m. and was being held without bail. Foster was arrested by Tampa police at 9:10 p.m. at the Grand Hyatt hotel where the team is staying before playing the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday.

The team sent out a one-sentence release Sunday morning saying it had cut Foster.

The 24-year-old Foster was charged with one count of first degree misdemeanor domestic violence.

Hamilton wins in F1 finale

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates

World champion Lewis Hamilton coasted to victory from pole position at the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on Sunday.

Having already secured a fifth F1 title, the British Mercedes driver beat Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel at the Yas Marina circuit to secure his 11th win of the season and 73rd of his career.

It was a symbolic finish to a season where, again, he showed his superiority under pressure to beat Vettel into second place overall for the second straight year.

Red Bull driver Max Verstappen finished third ahead of teammate Daniel Ricciardo for a fifth straight podium.

The race was held up after a spectacular crash on Lap 1 involving Nico Hulkenberg, who was sent tumbling into the barriers and eventually settled upside down by French driver Romain Grosjean. The Renault driver was unharmed and eventually climbed out.

Copa Libertadores suspended after attack

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina

The Copa Libertadores final between fierce Argentine rivals Boca Juniors and River Plate has been suspended.

South American soccer body CONMEBOL said on Sunday that the second leg of the final will be rescheduled after Boca’s team bus was attacked by River fans on Saturday.

The attack resulted in the game being moved back 24 hours to Sunday before CONMEBOL’s latest announcement.

The first leg of the final on Nov. 11 ended 2-2 at Boca’s La Bombonera Stadium.

Gladbach reclaims No. 2 spot in Bundesliga

BERLIN

Borussia Moenchengladbach reclaimed second place in the Bundesliga on Sunday with another fine attacking display in a 4-1 rout of Hannover.

Only league leader Borussia Dortmund has scored more goals (35) in 12 rounds so far, as Gladbach took its tally to 30 despite starting on the wrong foot.

American forward Bobby Wood scored just seconds into the game for Hannover. No Gladbach player had even touched the ball.

But Thorgan Hazard replied minutes later for the home side, finishing with a brilliant strike to the top left corner after some fine buildup play.

Michael Lang scored his first goal for Gladbach. Stindl made it 3-1 with a brilliant volley from Hazard’s cross before the hour mark. Gladbach substitute Denis Zakaria wrapped it up late with another fine finish.
