Reds closer Iglesias agrees to 3-year deal
Reds closer Iglesias agrees to 3-year deal
CINCINNATI
Reds closer Raisel Iglesias agreed Wednesday to a three-year contract guaranteeing $24,125,000, a deal that avoided arbitration.
Iglesias reached a $27 million, seven-year agreement in 2014 that allowed him to void the remainder of the deal once he was eligible for salary arbitration. That agreement called for $5 million salaries in each of the next two seasons.
He made $4.5 million this year, when he had a career-high 30 saves in 34 chances and a 2.38 ERA.
Rather than having Iglesias eligible for arbitration each season, the Reds offered a restructured deal that gives both sides certainty.
Bus carrying band rolls onto side on highway
GEORGE, Wash.
The Washington State Patrol says one of three charter buses carrying members of the University of Washington marching band to a football showdown at Washington State University rolled onto its side Thursday on Interstate 90, the Seattle Times reports.
Trooper John Bryant tells the Times that no serious injuries had been reported from the accident that was called in to authorities at 5:26 p.m. Bryant says troopers, paramedics and deputies from the Grant County Sheriff’s Office responded to the accident.
Bryant says the accident took place on eastbound I-90 at mile post 146, about 3 miles west of George.
The trooper told the Times that road conditions were extremely slippery and icy in spots.
The charter buses were headed to the Apple Cup in Pullman.

Infantino is seeking a full four-year term from 211 FIFA member countries at a June 5 vote in Paris. He was elected in February 2016 to complete the mandate of Sepp Blatter, who was banned by FIFA’s ethics committee.
Verstappen still irate over Ocon altercation
ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates
Not only is Max Verstappen unrepentant over his altercation with Esteban Ocon at the Brazilian Grand Prix, he suggests the French driver got away lightly with a few shoves to the chest.
Although he had already been lapped and had little to fight for, Ocon refused to let race leader Verstappen past him two weeks ago. The pair tangled, sending the Dutch driver spinning back to second place and pushing Lewis Hamilton up to first at Interlagos.
It cost Verstappen his third victory of the season, and sixth of his Red Bull career. He stopped a post-race interview when he saw Ocon, squaring up to his rival and shoving him three times before angrily pointing a finger at him as he walked away.
Asked at the Abu Dhabi GP on Thursday if he had regrets, Verstappen replied: “No, not really. I was after an apology and I got a different response.”
“I lost a victory, so I think from my side I was really calm. It could have been much worse,” added the 21-year-old Dutchman, who is known as much for his fiery temper as his daredevil driving. “I thought it was quite a calm response. What do you expect me to do? Shake his hand and say, ‘Thanks very much?’ “
