Tiny Rhode Island polling place saw 1 voter after all

PROVIDENCE, R.I.

A polling place that Rhode Island elections officials initially said did not get a single voter during the midterm elections did get one voter after all.

Precinct 2807 in Providence has just 14 registered voters.

The state Board of Elections website for days showed that none of them cast a ballot Nov. 6.

But a city spokesman tells the Providence Journal the polling station warden was in the process of shutting down the machine when a voter showed.

As happens with all votes not counted by a machine, the ballot was placed in an envelope and delivered to the Board of Elections to be manually counted.

That lone voter chose all Democrats and approved all three statewide ballot questions.

Four people cast ballots in the precinct in the 2016 presidential election.

Town removing divisive giant wooden troll

BRECKENRIDGE, Colo.

The town of Breckenridge in central Colorado is removing an art piece of a troll that has become a tourist attraction but also rankled nearby residents.

The Summit Daily News reports that town employees started removing the 15-foot wood troll in the ski resort town last Thursday.

The Town Council cited public safety concerns in its Nov. 13 decision to get rid of the artwork that Danish artist Thomas Dambo was built for a summer arts festival that ended in August.

The original plan was to leave the troll in place as long it could withstand the elements and wasn’t vandalized.

However, throngs of troll-seekers have caused numerous problems for some of nearby homeowners, who have complained about illegal parking, littering and a loss of privacy, among other issues.

WCCO-TV reports the new mom said it was a long labor, from about 5 a.m. until 11 p.m., “but the delivery went smoothly.”
