Canfield High School senior lacrosse player Brennen Klingensmith formally announced his intention to continue his academic and lacrosse career at Walsh University at a National Letter of Intent signing ceremony at the high school on Nov. 15.

He is the son of Jim and Amy Klingensmith.

Head lacrosse coach Gordon Byrne welcomed the crowd of students, faculty and staff to the signing.

“It is a great honor to introduce Brennen. He is the first lacrosse player to sign with a college since the inception of the program here at Canfield three years ago. He and his family have been a big asset to the program. He is a three-year letter winner and our leading scorer. He is a strong, talented athlete and I look forward to coaching him again this coming year. We wish him luck as he completes his high school career and transitions to the next step in his career at Walsh,” Byrne said.

Canfield High School Principal Mike Moldovan then addressed the crowd.

“Lacrosse is a relatively new sport here in Canfield. It has become an important sport, but more important is the kind of young man Brennen is. He is a wonderful human being, which is a credit to him and his family,” Moldovan said.

Klingensmith then took the stage to say a few words.

“First and foremost, I want to thank everyone for coming out today. To my family, friends, coaches and teammates, I would not be here without you. To Mr. Cooper, who couldn’t be here today, I’d like everyone to give him a round of applause. And to the coaches from Walsh, thank you for giving me this opportunity,” Klingensmith said.
