CRAFT SHOWS

The Austintown Fitch Choir Boosters will host a Santa’s Workshop Craft Show in the Fitch High School cafeteria from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 16. The show will offer crafts, consultants, a 50-50 raffle and a basket auction. The fundraiser will benefit the choir boosters, who are raising money for a trip to the Norfolk, Va., Navy Base. The boosters are accepting vendors for the craft show until Nov. 30.

FUNDRAISERS

Big Brothers Big Sisters will host a “Jingle Bell Calendar Raffle” fundraiser during the month of December. All participants who donate $10 will be eligible to win $50 per day in December based on the 3-digit Pennsylvania evening drawing. The prize is $500 on Dec. 31. Ceramics Program of Youngstown State University’s art department will present “Empty Bowls: YSU Charity Event” at John J. McDonough Museum of Art, 525 Wick Ave., Youngstown, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 1. Proceeds benefit the Rescue Mission of the Mahoning Valley. Empty Bowls is an international project to fight hunger, personalized by artists and art organizations on a community level. The project is an opportunity to help feed the hungry in the community. Local artists have donated their time and talent to create handmade bowls for the event. Attendees choose an “empty bowl” in exchange for their donation and receive a simple meal to enjoy. The bowl is meant to be taken home as a symbol of their participation in helping feed those in need in Youngstown. Tickets are $15 if purchased online at www.eventbrite.com/e/empty-bowls-ysu-2018-tickets-48332955170 or $20 at the door. Seating is limited. Food tickets for children are $5 for those 10 and under.

Diletto Winery, 8578 Market St., will host the Friendsgiving Week fundraiser for Goodness Grows. It kicks off with a Wine & Wings event from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, featuring live music by The Black Wolf and the Thief; wine and wings, and other food and drinks for purchase; and jams, wine charms and other Goodness Grows products for purchase. In addition, Goodness Grows will benefit from wine sales at Diletto Winery on Friday and Saturday.

Sojourn to the Past students will have a fundraiser today from 4 to 8 p.m. at Chipotle in Boardman. The community is encouraged to come support Youngstown high-school students as they work to raise their portion of the money needed to participate in Sojourn to the Past. Participants should tell the cashier that they are supporting the Sojourn to the Past fundraiser.

Winona Area Historical Society will host its 7th annual Christmas in the Country fundraiser Dec. 1 in the restored 1938 Meeting House. The facility is handicap-accessible. Hours will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Proceeds from the event will be used for archival storage and display materials and for general operating expenses. The fundraiser will include functional and decorative items that were handcrafted and donated by local artisans. Featured items will be rustic game boards crafted from original meeting house ceiling boards, bird houses, rustic Santas, wooden children’s toys and puzzles, keepsake boxes, garden totes and earth staples, the fourth annual WAHS Christmas ornament, knitted tea cozies, Christmas silk and grapevine wreaths, horseshoe d cor, homemade pies, jams and jellies, specialty breads and more. The Trash and Treasures table will offer gently-used Christmas decor.

Good Hope Relay for Life is sponsoring its annual Christmas wreath sale. Wreaths are $15 each or $18 with cemetery stand. Each 22-inch mixed pine and fir wreath comes with a red velvet bow. The wreaths will be made fresh at Rodgers’ Pine Hill Farm in New Castle, Pa. Orders must be turned in by Nov. 26 to Bobbie Chalky, 56 Leighton Ave., Boardman, OH 44512, or call 330-502-6044. Wreaths may be picked up Dec. 1 at Chalky’s home or at Good Hope Church, 98 Homestead Drive, Boardman, after each service. All wreaths must be paid for in advance. The wreaths can be used on graves or as decorations. The 2019 Mahoning County Cancer Relay for Life will take place June 15, 2019.

Helping Hands Closet at Western Reserve United Methodist Church, 4580 Canfield Road, Canfield, has new and gently used clothing for the entire family. Goodness Grows, a nonprofit organization cultivating personal, social and community growth through gardening, education and opportunity for people of all abilities, will host its Friends-Giving Week fundraiser at Diletto Winery Wednesday through Saturday at 8578 Market St., Boardman. Friends-Giving Week 2018 will begin with the Wine and Wings event taking place from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, featuring live music by The Black Wolf and the Thief, wings and wine by Diletto Winery, jams, wine charms and other Goodness Grows products for purchase. In addition to proceeds from the Wine & Wings event, Goodness Grows also will benefit from wine sales at Diletto Winery on Friday and Saturday. No cover. Nevels Temple Church, 939 Elm St., will host the sign up for its toy giveaway from 1 to 1:45 p.m. Nov. 20. Items are intended for children up to age 17. Participants cannot be signed up with the Salvation Army or any other organization, must have current identification, proof of family income, proof of legal guardianship (if applicable), Social Security or medical cards for each child or take a printout from Job & Family Services showing all information.

Ohio Living Home Health & Hospice Senior Center, 1110 Fifth Ave., Youngstown, will host a Christmas party from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 14. The event will feature live entertainment with Steve Fezzini, lunch, door prizes, raffles and more. Cost is $5 for members and $8 for guests. Reservations are due by Dec. 7. The center also is collecting new, unwrapped toys through Dec. 8 for Toys for Tots. Anyone interested in donating is asked to drop donations in the Toys for Tots box located in the front lobby.

Poland Lions are collecting new, washable blankets and comforters of all sizes for children and families in need in the community through Nov. 30. Westminster College will host “Cartographies and Narratives: Work by Murray Robertson” in the campus’ Foster Art Gallery in Patterson Hall through Dec. 7. Ohio Living Home Health & Hospice Senior Center is sponsoring a but trip to The Wheeling Island Casino and Oglebay Festival of Lights. The bus will leave the center at 1110 Fifth Ave., Youngstown, at 8:30 a.m. Dec. 12 for Youngstown Skate to meet the rest of the group. Participants are asked to use the side parking lot only. While en roue, participants will play bingo and have raffle drawings. Upon arrival at Wheeling Downs, each person will receive $25 in free slot play. The bus will leave the casino at 4 p.m. for Oglebay Festival of Lights. Snack bags provided courtesy of First Light Home Care. Cost is $30 for senior center members and $35 for guests. Howland UMC and The First Congregational Church of Wayne will sponsor a one-day bus trip to Oglebay Festival of Lights with Cabelas on Dec. 11. Cost is $39 per person. This trip includes a laser show and stop and shop at Cabelas along with a dinner stop on your own. Departure is set for 12:30 p.m. from The First Congregational Church of Wayne; pickup at Howland UMC at 1 p.m. with a return at 10:30 p.m. Tickets are sold on a first-come, first-served basis.
