Women’s Advent luncheon planned

There will be a Women’s Advent luncheon from 12:30 to 3 p.m. Dec. 9 at St. Patrick’s Church Hall, 225 N. Main St. The event will include a basket raffle with all proceeds going to Betty’s Angels, a nonprofit shelter for homeless, neglected and abused children.

Guest speaker will be Gina Love of Holy Apostles Parish in Youngstown. Love began her music ministry in 1994 and has provided music at liturgies, retreats, missions and workshops for the past 14 years. The cost is $20.

Registration must include a name, phone number, mailing and email addresses and choice of entre (chicken Francaise, top round of beef or penne pasta with roasted veggies and greens).

To reserve group seating for additional people, send reservation forms together and enclose payment in full. Checks should be made payable to Cheryl Beil and sent to 3008 Pothour-Wheeler Road, Hubbard, OH 44425. Registration flyers can be emailed upon request. Candy calendar will treat children

The Austintown Public Library, 600 S. Raccoon Road, will provide children of all ages with a treat from their Candy Calendar each day from Dec. 1 to 22.

Christmas Mix Up contest planned

Newport Public Library, 3730 Market St., will sponsor a contest for visitors from Dec. 1 to 15. Unscramble popular Christmas goodies, characters, songs and stories for a chance to win prizes. This contest is for people of all ages.

Hayride and petting zoo at Firestone Park

The Columbiana Area Tourism Board’s Joy of Christmas drive-through holiday light display will feature a hayride and petting zoo from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at Harvey S. Firestone Park, 338 E. Park Ave. The hayride is $5 per person, and children age 3 and under ride for free. The light show is by donation, $10 per vehicle or $2 per passenger on a motorcoach.

Holiday bazaar

The Jewish Community Center of Youngstown, 505 Gypsy Lane, will host its second annual holiday bazaar from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 25. The bazaar will feature crafts, homemade foods, jewelry, blankets and more. The event also will include a basket 50-50 raffle. Book discussion group

Salem Public Library, 821 E. State St., will host its monthly book discussion group at 7 p.m. Nov. 27, featuring “This Is How It Always Is,” by Laurie Frankel.
