Horror, sci-fi fan convention

HUDSON

Dark X-mas, a fan convention for horror, science fiction, fantasy and pop culture, will take place this weekend at the Norwood Inn and Suites, 6625 Dean Memorial Parkway, just off Interstate 80 between Akron and Cleveland.

Hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. The event will include vendor tables, a movie room, cosplay, celebrity sessions and more. The lineup of celebrity guests includes Lisa Wilcox (“A Nightmare on Elm Street 4 and 5”), Tuesday Knight (“Nightmare,” “X-Files”), Tony Moran (“Halloween”) and Felissa Rose (“Sleepaway Camp”). Polka party with Stanger, Sinchak

Peppermint Records’ final polka party of the year will take place Sunday from 3 to 7 p.m. at Avon Oaks Ballroom, 1401 N. State St.

The event will feature the Frank Stanger Orchestra and the Del Sinchak Band. Doors open at 2 p.m. Admission is $12. Food and beverages will be sold, and all attendees will be eligible to win a turkey.

Dana Young Artist event at Powers

YOUNGSTOWN

The Dana School of Music Young Artist Competition will take place at 1 p.m. Sunday at Powers Auditorium, 260 W. Federal St., downtown. Admission is free.

The competition is open to juniors, seniors and graduate students who are enrolled in applied music at the Dana School of Music at Youngstown State University. After the final performance, the winners will be announced. First-place and second-place winners will perform with the Dana Symphony Orchestra or the Dana Chamber Orchestra in 2019.
