Seniors group to have Nov. 19 meeting
The Holy Family Seniors Group will meet on Nov. 19 at Holy Family Parish Hall, located at 2729 Center Road in Poland. Hostesses this month are Rena Carano, Dora Cercone, Fran Furano and Joanne Pasquale. They are planning a Thanksgiving themed luncheon. Lunch is $4 per member and will be served at noon, followed by Bingo and card games. Poland Historical Society to meet
The Poland Historical Society will meet at the Little Red Schoolhouse, located at 4515 Center Road (State Route 224) in Poland Township, on Nov. 20. The business meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. The society will have an election of officers at this meeting. All officer positions are open for election. President Larry Baughman has indicated he is not seeking re-election, but will be available to help a new president get settled into the position. Vice-President (Laurie Fox), Secretary (Dave Smith) and Treasurer (Joanne Eiselstein) are accepting nominations for each officer position to be voted on at the Nov. 20 meeting. Nominations from the floor will also be accepted at the November meeting. November’s program, “American Outhouses,” will be presented by Ted Heineman at 7:30 p.m.
Carlozzi Financial Services hosts ninth annual funds drive
The public is invited to join Carlozzi Financial Services to help local families in need this holiday season by giving a monetary donation to Second Harvest Food Bank. A donation only in the form of a check made payable to Second Harvest Food Bank will be accepted. The check can be mailed to Carlozzi Financial Services, 831 Southwestern Run, Suite 1, Poland, OH 44514. Donations will be accepted through Dec. 7. Playtime at your library
Read a story at the Poland library on Nov. 20 at 10 a.m. and have fun with developmentally appropriate games and activities that you can do with your child to help them get ready for kindergarten. Activities will vary at each program. This event is for ages 2-6. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Trim a tree for November
Decorate an ornament for the Poland library’s all-seasons tree during regular hours throughout November. This event is for children of all ages.
Holiday closing
All libraries in the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County system will be closed for Thanksgiving on Nov. 22.
Yoga class
The Poland library will host a yoga class every Wednesday in November from 5-6 p.m. in the meeting room. Pay as you attend. Class is $10 per session. This event is for adults.
Bonding with babies, books and signs
Learn how to use American Sign Language (ASL) with your child through rhymes, songs, and stories, followed by time to play and socialize at the Poland library on Nov. 28 at 10 a.m. Learn easy corresponding signs to learn and share with your little ones.
A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving
Join the Poland library on Nov. 17 at 2:30 p.m. as they celebrate with the traditional Charlie Brown Thanksgiving dinner: jelly beans, pretzels, toast and more. Play games, make a craft and have some treats. This event is for children of all ages. This is a holiday program.
Read to Roxie
Relax and read to Roxie, a registered therapy dog with GO TEAM Therapy Dogs, on Nov. 20 at 6 p.m. at the Poland library. Each child will be given a 15 minute reading session while spots remain. Call 330-744-8636 and ask for the Poland library to register. This event is for grades 1-4.
Snack-n-Sign at Poland
This event is for all fifth-eighth graders: go to the Poland library on Nov. 30 at 4 p.m. to learn sign language and about Deaf culture through fun, interactive games and activities. A snack will be provided.
Color your world
Join the Poland library on Nov. 29 at 7 p.m. for a relaxing evening of coloring for teens and adults. Coloring sheets and materials will be provided, or you’re welcome to bring your own. This event is for adults and teens.
No need to knead
Join the Poland library on Nov. 19 at 6 p.m. as they teach you how to make homemade bread without kneading. Sample a finished loaf, and take home a batch of dough to bake at home. Ingredients will be provided, but bring your own mixing bowl and mixing spoon. (Food waiver must be signed.) Space is limited; registration recommended. This event is for adults and teens.
Blood drive
There will be a blood drive by the Mahoning Chapter of the American Red Cross to serve the needs of St. Elizabeth Hospital on Nov. 23 from 10 until 3 p.m. and Nov. 27 from 12:30-6:30 p.m. at the Poland library. For appointments, call 1-800-RED-CROSS (1-800-733-2767).

Tales and talk for 2s and 3s
Join the Canfield library on Nov. 29 at 10:30 a.m. for developmentally appropriate books, songs, rhymes, finger plays and other activities that will help your child (ages 2-3) become a successful reader.
Gotta Move story time
This event is for children ages 2-5 who are accompanied by a caregiver. Join the Poland library on Nov. 30 at 10 a.m. for a variety of musical and movement activities that appeal to the “young and restless,” stimulate brain development and motivate language learning. Adults and children, get ready to act out stories and rhymes, sing and dance, talk and play.
Christie to sign books

Gamblers Anonymous meetings
If you or someone you love has a gambling addiction, Gamblers Anonymous, the only known remedy for arresting such an illness, may be able to help. A meeting of Gamblers Anonymous will take place on Fridays at 7:30 p.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church, located at 119 Stadium Drive in Boardman. Another G.A. meeting will take place on Sundays at 7:30 p.m. at the Christ Presbyterian Church, located at at 3425 Hopkins Road in Youngstown (Cornersburg). There is no charge for the meetings, although collections are taken up at each meeting to provide for coffee, sugar and creamer, treats and free literature. The average contribution given by members at most meetings is $2. Meetings last about one-and-a-half hours and are both closed meetings, or, you must have suffered from a gambling addiction to attend. The Youngstown-area G.A. groups are friendly and welcoming and established members love to see new members join the fold. They are more than happy to help suffering gamblers and are knowledgeable about how to stay clean from this dreadful disease.
Overeaters Anonymous to have local meetings
Overeaters Anonymous is offering meetings at several local locations and on a variety of days. On Saturdays at 10 a.m., there will be a meeting at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in the Church Hall, Room 2, located at 4453 Warren-Sharon Road in Vienna, Ohio. This location is handicapped accessible. On Sundays at 7 p.m., there will be a meeting at Shenango Presbyterian Church, located at 3144 Wilmington Road (Route 18) in New Castle, Pa. This location is handicapped accessible. On Mondays, a meeting will take place at 1 p.m. at the Girard Multigenerational Center, located at 443 Trumbull Avenue in Girard.
