Canfield residents were given the opportunity to learn more about what their community has to offer while attending Canfield Rotary Club’s first Community Showcase, which was coupled with the annual Pancake Breakfast, on Nov. 4.
The Canfield Rotary Club hosted 35 area businesses, non-profit organizations and government entities at Canfield High School.
“We’ve held our pancake breakfast annually for many years, but felt we could do more to engage our community during this event. At the same time, we saw a need for an event that would celebrate and enhance the sense of community that exists in Canfield, while promoting the resources available in the area. Thus, the Community Showcase was born,” said Nicole Ramson, Community Showcase and Pancake Breakfast chair.
Businesses and organizations which took part in the event offered an array of services, products and resources. Attendees were able to learn more about their local government, schools, emergency services, local business offerings, services for aging and differently abled persons, fine arts and arts education, local history, social and community groups, and important issues in the community.
“Canfield Rotary Club is very excited to welcome many popular organizations to our event, as well as promoting some very important, albeit lesser known, organizations that deserve more exposure. Some of our Community Showcase participants include businesses such as Home Savings, Windsor House Inc. and Howard Hanna Real Estate Services’ Canfield Office; not-for-profit organizations including Butler Institute of American Art, Mill Creek Metroparks and The Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County; and, additionally, emerging organizations such as the North East Ohio Coalition Against Human Trafficking,” Ramson said.
Ramson added that the event offered something for everyone.
“The wonderful blend of organizations participating in the event is a marker of just how truly engaging the Canfield community is. It’s to celebrate all of Canfield and there is a little of something for everyone,” Ramson said.
This year’s Pancake Breakfast and Community Showcase was sponsored by Baird Brothers, Home Savings, Windsor House, Inc. and Howard Hanna Real Estate Services’ Canfield Office. Other sponsors included Inner Circle Pizza Canfield, Scachetti’s Ironwood Grille and Belleria Pizza Canfield. In-kind donations for the breakfast buffet were received from Thano’s Family Restaurant, Perkins Restaurant and Bakery in Canfield, and Giant Eagle in Canfield.
Rotary members and their families, along with National Honor Society members and Interact Club members, volunteered their time at the Pancake Breakfast. The breakfast is a fundraiser for the Canfield Rotary Club, with proceeds being used to support local charities and such Rotary events as Lighting of the Green and Fourth of July Fireworks Fest.
