Kennsington Golf Club and CTW Development Corp. collect toys
Kennsington Golf Club and Grille and CTW Development Corp. have teamed up with the United States Marine Corps Toys for Tots Program for its annual toy drive, which is going on now through Dec. 14. Kennsington, located in Canfield’s Westford Lifestyle Community, will collect new, unwrapped toys that will go to less fortunate children in the Mahoning Valley this holiday season. During the drive, anyone who donates a toy will receive a coupon for nine holes of golf at the course. This has been a standing tradition since the organizations first partnered on the toy drive nearly a decade ago. The local Toys for Tots, located in Vienna, serves both Mahoning and Trumbull counties. Toys can be brought to Kennsington Golf Club’s ProShop, located at 4171 Westford Place in Canfield, between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. daily.
Audubon Society presents “The Birds of Lake Milton”
The Audubon Society/Mahoning Valley invites the public to “The Birds of Lake Milton” at 7 p.m. on Nov. 26 at the Canfield library. Join fellow Mahoning Valley Audubon member Trish Gunther on a journey of birding through the seasons at Lake Milton. Learn what types of birds travel through the area during migration and some tips to identifying various species. They will also discuss what birds migrate and which ones stay all year.
Annual sale to benefit Angels for Animals
Angels for Animals is hosting its annual Antiques, Jewelry and Holiday D cor Sale. Raising funds for general operations, the sale is managed by a crew of volunteers who embrace the mission of saving and improving the lives of companion animals in a vast area. Early bird admission will be offered on Dec. 7 from 6-8 p.m. at a cost of $5. Free admission will be offered on Dec. 8 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. and Dec. 9 from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. The event will take place in the Andrews Hall at Angels for Animals, located at 4750 West South Range Road in Canfield. “Little Shop of Horrors” performed at Canfield High School
The Canfield Players will take the stage to present the “Little Shop of Horrors” at Canfield High School. The curtain will go up on Nov. 17 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 18 at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults and $8 for students. For reserved seats, call the box office at 330-702-7128.
Monday Night Writers meeting scheduled
The next meeting of Monday Night Writers will be on Nov. 19 from 6-8 p.m. in the small meeting room at the Canfield branch of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County, located at 43 W Main St. in Canfield. Area writers, both published and unpublished, are invited to attend. Led by professional writer Nancy Christie, author of “Traveling Left of Center and Other Stories,” “The Gifts of Change” and “Rut-Busting Book for Writers,” the two-hour sessions offer an opportunity for members to get group feedback on ‘works-in-progress.’ This will be the last meeting for 2018, with the next one taking place in January 2019. Theater has high-tea fundraiser
The Hopewell Theatre (formerly the Victorian Players) will host a Victorian High-Tea Fundraiser on Nov. 18 from 3-6 p.m., at the Piccadilly Parlour, located at 114 S. Broad St. in Canfield. Proceeds from this fundraiser will support its handicap accessibility project. A luncheon will be served, beginning at 3:15 p.m. and will consist of a cup of soup (your choice), tea sandwiches, sweets and tea (or coffee). Entertainment by the Just Friends Community Chorus will begin at 4 p.m. Background music will be provided by Darlene and Joe MacBenn on harp and flute. There will be a live auction and a 50/50 raffle, all proceeds going to the handicap accessibility project. Door prizes will be awarded. Victorian dress is encouraged but, not necessary. Due to limited seating, reservations are required. The cost is $30 per person and $15 of the ticket price is tax deductible. All libraries in the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County system will be closed for Thanksgiving on Nov. 22.
Canfield Village Middle School hosts canned food drive
Students at Canfield Village Middle School are having a canned food drive from Nov. 12-30. Canned food can be dropped off at the middle school. The donation will be given to Second Harvest Food Bank to help with the holidays.
Stikbot Makerspace
Bring your imagination to life with Stikbot at the Canfield library on Nov. 17 at 2:30 p.m. Through stop motion photography and creative storytelling, a Stikbot can be whoever you want: a secret agent, a dragon-slaying knight or the next rock star. Tweens will use the free Stikbot Studio app, action figures and Legos. Using creativity and imagination, they will design their own stop-motion film by taking a number of still photos, and will add backgrounds and sound to make a movie short. Bring an iPhone, iPad or Android with the app loaded. This event is for ages 9-12.
The GREAT Library READ contest
Now that the GREAT American READ contest has ended, the Canfield library wants to find out what some of the favorites are locally. Simply vote for your favorite title from the list and they will see what you like best. One vote per person per day. One entry will be randomly selected to win a gift certificate prize. This event is for adults and teens. It will take place during regular hours throughout November.

Gotta Move story time
This event is for children ages 2-5 who are accompanied by a caregiver. Join the Canfield library every Wednesday in November at 10 a.m. for a variety of musical and movement activities that appeal to the “young and restless,” stimulate brain development and motivate language learning. Adults and children, get ready to act out stories and rhymes, sing and dance, talk and play.
Mah-Jongg Mondays
Practice your new skill to rattle the tiles and join the fun each Monday in November from 1-3 p.m. at the Canfield library. Bring your own Mah-Jongg set or share with a friend. Mah-Jongg sets not provided. This event is for adults.
Gamblers Anonymous meetings
If you or someone you love has a gambling addiction, Gamblers Anonymous, the only known remedy for arresting such an illness, may be able to help. A meeting of Gamblers Anonymous will take place on Fridays at 7:30 p.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church, located at 119 Stadium Drive in Boardman. Another G.A. meeting will take place on Sundays at 7:30 p.m. at the Christ Presbyterian Church, located at at 3425 Hopkins Road in Youngstown (Cornersburg). There is no charge for the meetings, although collections are taken up at each meeting to provide for coffee, sugar and creamer, treats and free literature. The average contribution given by members at most meetings is $2. Meetings last about one-and-a-half hours and are both closed meetings, or, you must have suffered from a gambling addiction to attend. The Youngstown-area G.A. groups are friendly and welcoming and established members love to see new members join the fold. They are more than happy to help suffering gamblers and are knowledgeable about how to stay clean from this dreadful disease.

A Night at the Oasis - a 1920’s murder mystery dinner
Join in with “A Night at the Oasis,” an original script 1920’s murder mystery dinner to benefit Camp Stambaugh, located at 3712 Leffingwell Road in Canfield. This event will take place on Nov. 17 at 6:30 p.m. in the dining hall at the camp. You will have your choice of one of three entrees - prime rib, chicken francese or crab-stuffed cod - along with salad, role and dessert. 1920’s dress is optional but suggested. Advanced ticket sales only and donations are $100 per couple or $60 for a single. All proceeds will benefit Camp Stambaugh, which will be celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2019.
