McGuffey blanket drive to curb cold, warm hearts

YOUNGSTOWN

William Holmes McGuffey Elementary School staff and counseling team want to ensure all McGuffey students stay warm through winter.

The staff and counseling team are launching a blanket drive, asking for donations of blankets for McGuffey students from preschool through eighth-grade. The drive runs from Nov. 26 through Dec. 17 and donations may be dropped off in McGuffey’s main office, 310 S. Schenley.

“It’s an opportunity to help meet students’ needs this winter,” said Lindsay DeVecchio, a school counselor at McGuffey.

WIth more than 700 students at McGuffey, from pre-kindergarten through eighth-grade, organizers of the blanket drive are challenging all other schools on the West Side to join in on this challenge. They want to ensure everyone is warm this winter.

The blanket drive is another way to help students outside of the classroom

“One of the many challenges our students face is keeping warm during the winter months,” said Danielle Mordocco, a counselor at McGuffey. “We really want to help alleviate that barrier by providing as many warm blankets as possible to our students this holiday season.”
