Boardman High School’s Drama Guild is preparing for its production of the “Little Mermaid” Nov. 15-17 at the Boardman Performing Arts Center.
Rachel Ruggieri, the director of the show, said that students have been working on the show for 10 weeks.
“‘The Little Mermaid’ was chosen because we wanted the whole community to be involved. The story of ‘The Little Mermaid’ is timeless and relatable to all ages,” Ruggieri said.
Sophomore Cora Ams plays Ariel and Junior Will Arnim plays Prince Eric.
“There is so much talent at Boardman. The students are highly-skilled and looking for a place to express and share their talents,” Ruggieri said.
She explained that students auditioned on Sept. 6 and have been working ever since on developing the show.
Fifty-five students are involved in the production, with 38 students making up the cast.
Other students involved in the Drama Guild assist builders and costume designers Boardman brought aboard for the show.
Ruggieri said that student crew members assist builders in painting and prop decoration.
“The students on the crew do an outstanding job freshening the props and making sure they are all ready to go in order to have a smooth show,” she said.
She said that “The Little Mermaid” was chosen because of its large cast and family friendly story line.
“We encourage families in the community to come out for a night to see a family-friendly, live production of a story they all know and love,” Ruggieri said. “Our beautiful facility, the Boardman Performing Arts Center, gives us a venue to put on these near-professional productions. It is important for the students to be able to use their creativity to their highest potential.”
Tickets are available through www.boardmanperformingartscenter.com and at the box office before the show.
