New Orleans adds free-agent Dez Bryant

METAIRIE, LA.

A person familiar with the situation says free-agent Dez Bryant and the Saints have agreed on contract terms that will add the former Dallas Cowboys star to one of the NFL’s top offenses in New Orleans.

The person spoke to The Associated Press Wednesday on condition of anonymity because the roster move has not been announced.

The 30-year-old Bryant spent his first eight years in the NFL with Dallas and last season caught 69 passes for 838 yards and six touchdowns, including a 50-yard scoring play, for the Cowboys.

However, his professional reputation has been marred at times by public confrontations with coaches and teammates during games and practices.

Seeking salary cap relief, the Cowboys released Bryant after last season with two years remaining on the receiver’s five-year, $70 million contract.

DOLPHINS

Jones on same page with team

DAVIE, FLA.

Reshad Jones is expressing no regrets and offering no explanation.

The Miami Dolphins safety mysteriously took himself out of last week’s win over the New York Jets and watched the second half from the sideline. In the aftermath, coach Adam Gase said communication problems between defensive coordinator Matt Burke and players needed to be addressed.

On Wednesday, Jones declined to say why he was a spectator for much of the game, but he may have been unhappy with the Dolphins’ plan to rotate safeties against the Jets. He came out after only 10 snaps.

PATRIOTS

New England signs lineman Matt Tobin

FOXBOROUGH, Mass.

The Patriots have signed offensive lineman Matt Tobin to the 53-man roster.

Tobin practiced with the team on Wednesday. He takes the place of Brian Schwenke, who was placed on injured reserve. The move comes a day after the Patriots signed linebacker Albert McClellan and defensive back Obi Melifonwu and released offensive lineman Cole Croston and defensive lineman Geneo Grissom.

Tobin played four seasons in Philadelphia from 2013 to 2016 and spent 2017 in Seattle. He was inactive for the 49ers for two games this season before being released on Sept. 19.

Tobin was originally signed by the Eagles as an undrafted free agent in 2013. He was traded from Philadelphia to Seattle last August.

He has appeared 57 games with 21 starts.

VIKINGS

Running back Abdullah claimed off waivers

EAGAN, Minn.

The Minnesota Vikings have claimed running back Ameer Abdullah off waivers from the Detroit Lions.

The Vikings announced the move Wednesday.

Abdullah was drafted by the Lions in the second round in 2015, but they weren’t using him much this year.

He has 1,251 yards rushing along with 57 receptions in his career.

The Vikings also waived rookie running back Roc Thomas.

Falcons

Irvin reunites with former coach

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga.

Atlanta Falcons have signed defensive end Bruce Irvin to a one-year deal, reuniting the veteran with coach Dan Quinn.

Irvin, cut by the Oakland Raiders on Saturday, became a free agent after clearing waivers on Tuesday with $3.8 million remaining on his contract.

His signing was announced Wednesday by the Falcons, who did not release terms of the deal.
