YSU cold from three as Penguins drop season opener
Youngstown State was overly reliant on a cold three-point shot in a 69-53 loss to Pittsburgh in the mens basketball team's season opener on Tuesday.
The Penguins were 7 for 37 from three. After trailing by just three points at halftime, YSU (0-1) went on a four-minute scoreless stretch that allowed the Panthers to get the lead into double digits.
Kendale Hampton came off the bench to lead YSU with 12 points. Michael Akuchie and Darius Quisenberry had nine and 7 points, respectively. Naz Bohannon pulled down 10 rebounds.
Trey McGowans lead Pitt with 17 points to give Jeff Capel a win in his debut as Pitt's head coach.
