Guitar ensemble to give free concert

YOUNGSTOWN

The Dana School of Music Guitar Ensemble will perform a free concert at 7 p.m. Thursday in Bliss Recital Hall, on the lower level of Bliss Hall at Youngstown State University.

Members of the ensemble are Dan Mihelarakis, Nicholas Frank, Angela N. Buzzacco, Shaun McCune, Andy Pickard, Dan Paterson, Marco Morgione, Nico Morgione, Isaac Hraga, Gina Love and Ethan Lyons.

The ensemble will perform music by Chick Corea, Bach, The Beatles and Thelonious Monk, among others.

On Friday, guest artist Zvonimir Tot will conduct a master class at 2 p.m. in Bliss Hall, room 2222.

Tot is a Chicago-based jazz guitarist, composer and arranger with a style deeply rooted in the jazz tradition but flavored by his European origin.

Tot has performed internationally with a variety of world-renowned musicians. He is a visiting assistant professor of music at the University of Illinois at Chicago and is the founder and owner of Groove Art Records, as well as a full member of ASCAP, GRAMMY, Jazz Education Network (JEN), and the American Composers Forum. He has recorded four CDs as a band leader, as well as numerous CDs as a sideman, for various labels.
