Jets 4, Panthers 2

HELSINKI

Finland native Patrik Laine had a hat trick as the Winnipeg Jets took a victory over the Florida Panthers in the Finnish capital. Laine scored in the second period and twice in the third, including an empty-netter, for the Jets, who opened the back-to-back series between the teams. Mathieu Perreault scored the opening goal for the Jets (8-4-1) and defenseman Dustin Byfuglien had three assists. The Panthers (2-5-3) tied the score twice on goals by Keith Yandle and Evgenii Dadonov.

Red Wings 4, Devils 3

DETROIT

Justin Abdelkader scored a short-handed goal midway through the third period and Trevor Daley put the puck in an empty net for another short-handed score in the final minute, helping the Detroit Red Wings beat the New Jersey Devils to extend their season-high winning streak to three games. Marcus Johansson scored for New Jersey with 4 seconds left on a goal that stood after review. Jimmy Howard made 25 saves for the Red Wings. Schneider stopped 27 shots for the Devils.

Stars 2, Maple Leafs 1

TORONTO

Dallas backup goalie Anton Khudobin made 30 saves to help the Stars beat the Toronto Maple Leafs. Jamie Benn and Devin Shore scored, and Tyler Seguin added two assists. Patrick Marleau scored for Toronto, and Frederik Andersen made 16 saves. The Stars made it 2-0 at 4:43 third on Shore’s goal off a feed from Mattias Janmark. Marleau scored on a power play with 3:09 to go.

Canadiens 6, Capitals 4

MONTREAL, QUEBEC

Max Domi broke a tie with 21 seconds left and Jesperi Kotkaniemi scored his first two NHL goals in the Montreal Canadiens’ victory over the Washington Capitals. At 18 years and 118 days, Kotkaniemi became the second-youngest goal scorer in franchise history. Brendan Gallagher also had two goals, and Joel Armia added an empty-netter. Carey Price stopped 27 shots for his fifth victory of the season to help the Canadiens improve to 7-3-2. Alex Ovechkin and Lars Eller each scored twice for the Capitals, and Braden Holtby made 38 saves.

Predators 4, Lightning 1

TAMPA, FLA.

Pekka Rinne made 42 saves in his return after missing five games with an injury, and the Nashville Predators beat the Tampa Bay Lightning. Kyle Turris, Roman Josi, Calle Jarnkrok and Miikka Salomaki scored, and Ryan Johansen had two nifty assists for the Predators. Tampa Bay got a goal from Slater Koekkoek, and Andrei Vasilevskiy stopped 20 shots. Nashville is the only opponent Vasilevskiy (0-3-1) has never beaten.

Blues 5, Golden Knights 3

ST. LOUIS

Oskar Sundqvist scored two rare goals to lead the St. Louis Blues past the Vegas Golden Knights. Vladimir Tarasenko, Tyler Bozak and Colton Parayko also scored for the Blues. Jake Allen stopped 31 shots for his first win against Vegas after going 0-0-2 last season. Sundqvist’s second goal of the game — and the season — put the Blues ahead to stay 6:29 into the second period on a pass from Robert Thomas. Marc-Andre Fleury allowed five goals, matching a season high, on 26 shots and fell to 5-5-1. He also gave up five goals on Oct. 4 versus Philadelphia.

Senators 4, Sabres 2

OTTAWA

Craig Anderson made 21 of his 46 saves in the third period and the Ottawa Senators held off the Buffalo Sabres in the first game of a home-and-home series. Ryan Dzingel, Dylan DeMelo, Colin White and Bobby Ryan, into an empty net, scored for the Senators. Thomas Chabot and Mark Stone each had two assists. Jason Pominville, playing in his 1,000th NHL game, and Jeff Skinner scored for the Sabres, and Carter Hutton made 28 saves. Buffalo scored twice in the first minutes of the third period to cut it to 3-2. Skinner scored on a power play at 3:55 as he tipped Rasmus Ristolainen’s point shot.
