Disney princess and superhero breakfast fundraiser
There will be a Disney princess and superheor breakfast fundraiser on Nov. 10 at 9 a.m. at the Poland library. Each child attending the breakfast can dress as their favorite Disney princess or superhero. They will receive a free ticket to the Disney on Ice Show “Frozen.” The cost for the breakfast is $15 per child. Proceeds benefit children’s reading programs at the library. Children —and their parents—are welcome to dress in costume. Reservations are required. Playtime at your library
Read a story at the Poland library on Nov. 20 at 10 a.m. and have fun with developmentally appropriate games and activities that you can do with your child to help them get ready for kindergarten. Activities will vary at each program. This event is for ages 2-6. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Trim a tree for November
Decorate an ornament for the Poland library’s all-seasons tree during regular hours throughout November. This event is for children of all ages.
PLYMC’s American Sign Language club (ASL)
The purpose of the ASL club is to teach attendees of any age about American Sign Language. During meetings, they will practice and learn the various aspects of the language and culture of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing. The group’s goal is to bring awareness of and instill the love of ASL. The next meeting is on Nov. 15 at 6 p.m. at the Poland library. Everyone is welcome, regardless of experience. Refreshments will be provided. This event is for the entire family.
Stamping fun

BPJWL has meeting on Nov. 5
The next meeting of the GFWC Ohio Boardman-Poland Junior Women’s League will take place on Nov. 5 at Glenellen Assisted Living, located at 9661 Market St. in Boardman, at 7 p.m. Members are to bring Heifer International donation boxes to be turned in to the international office. Members are also to bring items for the shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child for the Juniorettes to put together at a later date. Hostesses for the meeting are Joyce Martin and Sperry Rongone. The Boardman-Poland Junior Women’s League is open to all women older than 18, residing in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties who are interested in friendship, fun and community involvement. Their mission is to provide a creative outlet for women interested in providing community service in areas of arts, conservation, education, home life, international affairs and public affairs. Shop for a Cause event to take place on Nov. 11
The Mahoning County Medical Society Alliance is hosting its annual Shop for a Cause event on Nov. 11 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Ivory & Birch, located at 7631 Market Street in Boardman. Learn how to create a Prezi, presentation software that is an alternative to PowerPoint, at this event at the Poland library on Nov. 13 at 6 p.m. This beginner’s class will walk you through the necessary steps of creating a Prezi. Real estate association meets
The Mahoning Valley Real Estate Investors Association will meet on Nov.12 from 5:30-9 p.m. at Boardman Park’s Lariccia Family Community Center, located at 375 Canfield Poland Road, for its monthly meeting. Appraisals and house inspections are very important aspects of real estate investing. Come to November monthly meeting and learn all about these two very important topics from a local appraisal expert and from a local house inspection expert. Western Reserve Knitting Guild meets on Nov. 13
The Western Reserve Knitting Guild will be meeting on Nov. 13 at 6:30 p.m. at the Rotary Community Building, Fair Park in Canfield. Begin the evening with a potluck dinner; members are to bring a favorite dish to share and the guild will provide drinks, plates and utensils. The meal begins promptly at 6:30 p.m. For this month’s program, a one-button cowl, you’ll need a skein of worsted or dk yarn and the appropriate needles The guild will provide the pattern and the group will be learning the German twisted cast-on. It’s a very stretchy cast on that begins the one button cowl. The highlight of the evening will be the group’s first fundraiser of the year. Guild members and guests will have the opportunity to purchase a button for their cowl. The guild will be hosting a trunk show featuring Dimensions Raku Fired Clay. There will be buttons, large and small, shawl pins and jewelry for your hand-knitted items. The Western Reserve Knitting Guild meets on the second Tuesday evening of each month at Fair Park and new members are welcome. The Poland library will host a yoga class every Wednesday in November from 5-6 p.m. in the meeting room. Pay as you attend. Class is $10 per session. This event is for adults.
Bonding with babies, books and signs

A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving
Join the Poland library on Nov. 17 at 2:30 p.m. as they celebrate with the traditional Charlie Brown Thanksgiving dinner: jelly beans, pretzels, toast and more. Play games, make a craft and have some treats. This event is for children of all ages. This is a holiday program.
Read to Roxie

Join the Poland library on Nov. 29 at 7 p.m. for a relaxing evening of coloring for teens and adults. Coloring sheets and materials will be provided, or you’re welcome to bring your own. This event is for adults and teens.
No need to knead
Join the Poland library on Nov. 19 at 6 p.m. as they teach you how to make homemade bread without kneading. Sample a finished loaf, and take home a batch of dough to bake at home. Ingredients will be provided, but bring your own mixing bowl and mixing spoon. (Food waiver must be signed.) Space is limited; registration recommended. This event is for adults and teens.
Blood drive

Poland Friends of the Library meeting and presentation
Bridget Lackey, Dietician and Community Health Educator from Mercy Health, will speak on Healthier at Home and will discuss information on common health problems, self-care, prevention and determining when it’s time to seek medical care at this event at the Poland library on Nov. 6 at 9:30 a.m.
Cardinal Mooney to host annual eighth-grade day
Cardinal Mooney High School will host its annual eighth-grade day on Nov. 13 from 8:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. at the school, located at 2545 Erie Street in Youngstown. Students currently in eighth grade from all area parochial, public and charter schools are invited to spend the day in classes ranging from computer science and math to art and theology. Gamblers Anonymous meetings
If you or someone you love has a gambling addiction, Gamblers Anonymous, the only known remedy for arresting such an illness, may be able to help. A meeting of Gamblers Anonymous will take place on Fridays at 7:30 p.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church, located at 119 Stadium Drive in Boardman. Another G.A. meeting will take place on Sundays at 7:30 p.m. at the Christ Presbyterian Church, located at at 3425 Hopkins Road in Youngstown (Cornersburg). There is no charge for the meetings, although collections are taken up at each meeting to provide for coffee, sugar and creamer, treats and free literature. The average contribution given by members at most meetings is $2. Meetings last about one-and-a-half hours and are both closed meetings, or, you must have suffered from a gambling addiction to attend. The Youngstown-area G.A. groups are friendly and welcoming and established members love to see new members join the fold. They are more than happy to help suffering gamblers and are knowledgeable about how to stay clean from this dreadful disease.

Mill Creek ABWA to have anniversary meeting
The Mill Creek Chapter of ABWA (American Business Women’s Association) will host its Nov. 13 anniversary meeting at A la Cart Catering in Canfield beginning with networking at 6 p.m. and dinner at 6:30 p.m. The menu will include roast beef, southern baked chicken, sand trap potatoes, California blend vegetables, cole slaw, tossed salad, tomato, pepper and onion salad, rolls, coffee or tea and cake for dessert. Local retired teachers association to have Nov. 14 meeting
Mahoning Retired Teachers Association will meet on Nov. 14 at Drake’s Landing in Canfield. The social hour will begin at 11 a.m. and lunch at 11:45 a.m., followed by the meeting and program. Susan Harris will preside. The American Legion will present colors in honor of Veteran’s Day. Scholarship chairperson Sonia Tsvetkoff will introduce and present MRTA’s scholarships to YSU School of Education students. Deana DeLuca will present a program on “Mindfulness and Meditation.” This month’s community service project will be donations to the Canfield Veterans Auxiliary. Grilled chicken salad or the buffet, which will feature roasted turkey, will be served. All area educators are invited to attend. Friendly Squares dance in November
The Friendly Squares will host their monthly square dance on Nov. 10 from 7:30-10 p.m. at the Niles SCOPE Center, located at 14 E. State St. in Niles. Gene Hammond will be the caller and Frankie Hammond will be cuing line dances. The theme for the dance is Veterans. This will be a high/low dance with alternating tips for new dancers currently taking lessons and tips for more experienced dancers. Dress is casual and light refreshments will be served.
