“A Raisin in the Sun,” directed by Carla D. Gipson, Hopewell Theatre, 702 Mahoning Ave., Youngstown. Auditions will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. Nov. 3 and 4. Performances are scheduled for Feb. 15-16, 22-24 2019. Cast requirements include: five men (four African American, one Caucasian) and four women and one young boy (all African American). This production peers into the life of the Youngers, a poor African-American family living in Chicago during the 1950s. An opportunity to escape poverty comes in the form of a $10,000 life-insurance check that the matriarch of the family receives upon her husband’s death. The family must first come to grips with their own set of conflicts, desires and disappointments for a resolution that is good for them all. Call the theater at 330-746-5455 for information.
