Tigers 6, Angels 1

DETROIT

Jose Iglesias’ two-run single keyed a Detroit’s five-run sixth as the Tigers took advantage of Shohei Ohtani’s departure following the second rain delay to beat Los Angeles. Ohtani, starting for the first time since May 20th, allowed one run ond three hits in five innings. He walked three and struck out five while throwing 83 pitches.Tigers starter Mike Fiers was also knocked out by the second rain delay in the top of the sixth, allowing one run and seven hits in 52/3 innings.

Red Sox 6, Blue Jays 4

BOSTON

J.D. Martinez hit a tiebreaking, two-run homer over the Green Monster and out of Fenway Park, and Boston beat Toronto to complete a three-game sweep. Martinez tied for the major league lead with his 18th homer, breaking a 2-2 tie in the sixth. Eduardo Nunez had a solo homer and RBI double, and Jackie Bradley Jr. had a run-scoring double for Boston. Toscar Hernandez hit a two-run homer for the Blue Jays. Eduardo Rodriguez (6-1) gave up two runs and three hits in 62/3 innings with seven strikeouts and one walk. Boston is 10-1 in his starts. Craig Kimbrel allowed two inherited runners to score on Kendrys Morales’ double, then got three straight outs for his 18th save in 20 chances.

Yankees 5, Astros 3

NEW YORK

Luis Severino struck out 11 in seven overpowering innings, beating longtime Yankees nemesis Dallas Keuchel for the second time this year as New York topped the Houston. Gary Sanchez snapped an 0-for-19 slump with a two-run single and the Yankees took the season series 5-2. Severino (8-1) allowed four hits, including Max Stassi’s two-run homer, and walked one in winning his sixth consecutive decision. Aroldis Chapman got three outs for his 12th save in 13 chances. Stassi, subbing for injured catcher Brian McCann, hit an RBI double with two outs in the ninth before Chapman fanned George Springer to end it.

NATIONAL LEAGUE

Reds 7, Diamondbacks 4

PHOENIX

Adam Duvall’s grand slam erased an early four-run deficit, and Cincinnati rallied to beat Arizona. Scott Schebler added a tiebreaking two-run drive in the sixth, helping the last-place Reds salvage the finale of the three-game set. Joey Votto and Eugenio Suarez each had three hits. Both of Cincinnati’s homers came off Patrick Corbin (5-2), who gave up a season-high six runs in six innings. Paul Goldschmidt and John Ryan Murphy went deep for the Diamondbacks, who have dropped 16 of 20 overall.

Brewers 3, Cardinals 2

MILWAUKEE

The Cardinals’ Alex Reyes pitched four scoreless innings in his return from Tommy John surgery, and Oswaldo Arcia hit a go-ahead single in a two-run seventh to lead Milwaukee. Making his first major league appearance since Sept. 29, 2016, Reyes allowed three hits, struck out two and walked two. Yelich hit into a run-scoring forceout to put Milwaukee ahead in the fifth, but the Cardinals took a 2-1 lead in the seventh against Jeremy Jeffress (5-0) on Harrison Bader’s fifth home run and Tommy Pham’s sacrifice fly. Yelich drove Tyler Lyons’ first pitch of the seventh inning off the facing of the center-field scoreboard, and Jesus Aguilar, Domingo Santana and Arcia singled off Sam Tuivailala (1-1). Dexter Fowler had three singles for the Cardinals.

Mets 4, Braves 1

ATLANTA

Brandon Nimmo and Adrian Gonzalez each drove in two runs while Jason Vargas pitched five scoreless innings. It was a much-needed reprieve for the Mets, who had lost seven of nine and are 16-25 since starting the season 11-1. The Braves had rallied to win two of the first three games in the series in the ninth inning, but they couldn’t muster a comeback this time, going down in order as Robert Gsellman earned his second save. Atlanta dropped into second place in the NL East, one-half game behind Washington, the two-time defending division champion that begins a four-game series at SunTrust Park on Thursday.

INTERLEAGUE

Nationals 2, Orioles 0

BALTIMORE

Max Scherzer pitched eight innings of two-hit ball to earn his eighth consecutive victory, Bryce Harper hit his 18th home run and Washington beat Baltimore for a three-game sweep. Scherzer (9-1) struck out 12, walked one and retired 24 of 27 batters. It was the eighth time this season he reached double figures in strikeouts and the 72nd time in his career. Sean Doolittle gave up two singles in the ninth, but notched his 13th save. Harper moved into a tie with Mike Trout for the major league lead in homers when he connected on a 3-2 pitch from rookie David Hess in the third inning for a 1-0 lead. Making his fourth major league start, Hess (2-2) gave up one run and four hits over six innings. Hess was replaced by Miguel Castro.
