Music in the Afternoon recital

The William Holmes McGuffey Historical Society’s annual summer recital, Music in the Afternoon, will take place June 10 at 2 p.m. at Boardman United Methodist Church, 6809 Market Street, Boardman.

The program will feature organist Sean Baran along with violinist Jay Koziorynsky and pianist Joel Kreuzwieser.

The program is free and open to the public. A good will offering will be accepted to further society education activities.

Reservations are not needed. Complimentary refreshments will be served, courtesy of BUMC.

Recital selections will feature piano, organ, violin and voice composed by Sergei Rachmaninoff, Ralph Vaughan Williams, Ludwig van Beethoven, Franz Schubert, and L on Bo ´llmann.

The church’s 28-rank Moller Pipe Organ will be featured. It was installed in the newly built sanctuary of Boardman United Methodist Church in 1967 and was donated by Youngstown philanthropist, Leon A. Beeghly in memory of his wife.

Sean Baran is a graduate of Youngstown State University, where he earned a Master of Arts and Bachelor of Arts degrees in music performance.

Baran is the organist at Boardman United Methodist Church, where he also directs the BUMC Community Concert Series.

A Mahoning Valley native, Jay Koziorynsky is a freelance violinist/violist and teacher in Northeast Ohio. He is a graduate of Boardman High School and student at Youngstown State University’s Dana School of Music from 2011-15.

He plays regularly with the Akron, Ashland, Youngstown and Wheeling Symphony Orchestras.

Joel Kreuzwieser is a top 10 student of the junior class, at Ursuline High School.

He performs yearly at the OFMC Junior Festival at YSU and recently earned honorable mention at the Unusual Combinations Piano Competition at Allegheny College. He also placed first at the Middle East District Buckeye Auditions hosted by Ohio Music Teachers Association.
