Three national titles on Saturday helped propel Mount Union to its second outdoor track and field national title at the 2018 NCAA Division III Championships at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.

It was the Purple Raiders’ third track and field national title in four years (others coming in the 2014 outdoor and 2018 indoor seasons) and like each of the other two, it came down to a win in the final event — the 4x400 relay.

Junior James Roth, senior Tyler Neff, junior Clark Etzler and sophomore AJ Digby ran a championship and school record time of 3:08.10 for the win.

Digby also won the 400-meter title with a time of 46.07. It is his first individual national title. His time is the fifth fastest in NCAA Division III history and broke a school record of 46.66 set in 1966.

He also combined with sophomore Darian Littlejohn, senior Josh Weber and freshman Malik Britt to place ninth in the 4x100 meter relay.

Sophomore Mason Plant won the 110 hurdles with a school-record time of 14.22. The four-time All-American won the 60 hurdles indoor national title earlier this year.

It is Mount Union athletics’ 17 national title.
