Water park to open for summer season

Cedar Point Shores Waterpark, the 18-acre water park at Cedar Point amusement park, opens for the summer Saturday. There will be giveaways and live entertainment all weekend, and guests can watch the construction of a massive sand castle sculpture.

Cedar Point Shores features 17 attractions, including the six-story Point Plummet aqua-drop body slides, Portside Plunge inner tube slides, the Storm Surge raft slide and Lake Erie Nor’easter. For a more relaxed experience, guests can take a ride on the Cedar Creek lazy river or float in the waves of the 500,000-gallon Breakwater Bay wave pool.

For younger children, there are also geysers, fountains and mini slides at Lakeslide Landing and Lemmy’s Lagoon.

Former reality star guilty in killing

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va.

A former reality TV star has pleaded guilty to killing a U.S. Coast Guard technician in a drunken wrong-way collision on a Virginia highway.

Melissa Hancock, 25, pleaded guilty Wednesday to aggravated DUI manslaughter in the November 2017 death of 29-year-old Petty Officer 2nd Class Daniel Dill.

In March, Hancock entered pleas of no contest to driving the wrong way and failing to obey a highway sign. Those misdemeanors don’t carry jail time, but the felony manslaughter charge carries a one-year minimum jail sentence.

At the time of the crash, Dill was driving to pick up his wife and friends.

Hancock appeared on Lifetime’s “Little Women: Atlanta,” a reality show about women of short stature.

Sentencing is set for Oct. 10.
