Three YSU performers crack top 30 in NCAAs

Youngstown State track and field athletes Abby Jones, Jaynee Corbett and Collin Harden all placed in the top 30 of their respective events on Thursday at the NCAA East Preliminary Round at the USF Track and Field Stadium.

Jones led the way with a 19th-place finish in the high jump clearing the bar at 1.70m. She opened the competition making her first two jumps at 1.65m and 1.70m, but failed to advance at 1.75m.

Corbett placed 24th with a throw of 15.49m in the shot put. Corbett’s finish at the meet was the best of her career after previously finishing 26th and 28th. It was the final meet in Corbett’s decorated YSU career.

Harden (Girard) placed fourth in his heat of the 400 hurdles with a time of 52.35 seconds as the top three advanced to the quarterfinals. He finished 30th overall in the event.

YSU still has three athletes remaining in the NCAA East Prelims. Chad Zallow (Warren JFK) is set to run in the 110 hurdles at noon today while javelin thrower Tyler Donati and high jumper Arnaldo Morales (Struthers) will compete on Saturday.
