YOUNGSTOWN

Members of the vice squad and Community Police Unit found two guns Thursday in a West Side home while serving a warrant investigating drug activity and arrested a man for assaulting a police officer.

Akira Boatwright, 18, of South Lakeview Avenue, is in the Mahoning County jail on $40,000 bond after his arraignment today in municipal court on charges of possession of cocaine, possession of drugs and assault on a police officer.

Reports said officers got to the home just after 6 p.m. and found Boatwright and handcuffed him so they could search the home. When he was arrested after a bag of cocaine and pills were found, he was challenging officers to a fight, reports said, kicked an officer in the knee and tried to spit at an officer.

Police also found a loaded 9mm semiautomatic handgun and a loaded .22-caliber revolver inside the home.
