Hilltop Elementary School hosted its annual PTA-sponsored Vehicle Career Day on May 18.
Vehicle Career Day took place in the front parking lot, with volunteer Hilltop parents, community members and local safety services providing their vehicles.
The vehicles were set up for the students to be able to get an up-close look and have an interactive experience, while also learning about the vehicle, the career associated with it, and the relationship of the vehicle to the career.
Eleven vehicle stations were set up, including a Canfield City Police car, a Mahoning County Sheriff SUV, Cardinal Joint Fire District fire truck and ambulance, a dump truck, a snow plow, a race car, Army wrecker and Humvee from the 838th Military Police Company out of Austintown, the front of a semi truck, a Model T, an Army MRAP and All Spec Heating and Cooling Company.
Rollin Gosney, a parent of a Hilltop student, brought his Team Gosney Remax Valley Real Estate race car.
“This is a great experience for the students. I wouldn’t have missed it for the world,” Gosney said.
Each grade level had an hour to visit the vehicles while rotating every five minutes to ensure each student was able to visit each station. Sara Michaliszyn served as chair of Career Day and Hilltop PTO volunteers were also on hand to help.
“Our Vehicle Career Day is a good hands-on experience for the students to learn about the different vehicles and the careers that go with them. They can touch the vehicles, hear the vehicles and talk about the vehicles. Thank you to the parents and the community organizations who volunteered their time and vehicles today,” said Michaliszyn.
