Boys track takes AAC title as runners-up

The Boardman boys track team finished as AAC Runners-Up for the 2018 season following the championship meet on May 8 at Spartan Stadium.

Senior Steven Amstutz placed first in the shot put and the 4x400 team of senior Justice Jama, juniors Payton Torres and Josh Rodriguez and sophomore Isaiah Suarez were league champions in their events.

Senior Billy Cammack placed second in the 200-meter dash is a season best time of 23.22 and Rodriguez was sixth in a season best time of 23.76. In the 110 hurdles, sophomore Brian Yauger was second in a career best time of 16.08. The 4x800 relay team of Senior Jason Fabian and freshmen Frank Bero, Jonah Bacho and Cristian Ortiz placed second. The 4x200 relay of Cammack, Jama, Rodriguez and Suarez were third in a season best time of 1:31.87.

Sophomore Mitchel Dunham was third and Bero fifth in the 1600. The 4x100 relay team of junior Nick Torres, sophomores Alan Cuevas and Rashie Garner and freshman Brennan Stratton placed seventh. Jama was third and Suarez fifth in the 400 in season best times of 52.85 and 53.18, respectively. Yauger was sixth in the 300 hurdles and Payton Torres and Dunham placed second and third in the 800. Freshman Caydin Newberry and sophomore River Flatley were fourth and fifth overall in the 3200.

Junior Nikitas Missos was fifth in the discus and sophomore David Merdich was sixth in the shot put. Nick Torres was seventh overall in the long jump with a season best 18 feet 9 inches and Cammack was seventh in the high jump. Freshman Teddy Anzevino tied a BHS freshman record in the pole vault at 10’6” to place third and senior Mark Moradian was fifth in that event. Freshman Micah Beckwith placed first in the seated 100 and 400, and also set a new personal best in the 800 and shot put.
