Man gets 8 years for 2017 stabbing death

WARREN — Arteum P. Brodeur, who uttered the words “Did he die?” during his arraignment hearing last July when he learned he had been charged with murder, was sentenced to eight years in prison today.

Brodeur, 25, of North Park Avenue, pleaded guilty in March in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court to a reduced charge of voluntary manslaughter.

He killed Michael Krevas, 31, July 8, 2017, by stabbing him in the parking lot of an apartment building next door to the home where Brodeur stayed.

Brodeur was indicted on murder and tampering with evidence after the killing, which prosecutors have said was captured on surveillance video.

The judge mentioned that Brodeur, who was born in Russia, had a "rough life," as conveyed to the judge in a presentencing investigation provided by the Trumbull County Adult Probation Department.

The case involved drug abuse, the judge said.

But he said Brodeur had made mistakes "for a while" and needed to be punished.
