Canfield Republican Women's Club PAC will sponsor a quarter auction fundraiser June 6 at the Shrine Club, 1735 W. South Range Road, North Lima. Gino Defabio will be the emcee and caller. DANCES

The Friendly Squares will host its monthly square dance from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Saturday at the Niles SCOPE Center, 14 E. State St., Niles. Ed Pabst will be the caller and Frankie Hammond will be calling line dances between the tips. This will be a high/low dance with tips for new and experienced dancers. FESTIVALS

Simply Slavic will host its 8th annual Simply Slavic festival from 7 to 10 p.m. June 15 for “Party on the Plaza- Slavic-style” and from noon to midnight June 16 on Federal Plaza East. Highlights include live music, folk dance performances, homemade food, children’s activities, a Slavic storytelling booth, and a bonfire after dark. Parking is free at the Covelli Center. FUNDRAISERS

Auxiliary of the Oblate Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus will host its fourth annual fundraiser from 6 to 11 p.m. June 2 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Basilica in Youngstown. The evening will feature Italian food and a cookie table. There will be dancing, an auction, a raffle and prize of $1,000. Girard Multi-Generational Center's annual fundraiser “Cars are the Stars 4” will include two special raffles this year. Winners will be announced the day of the show, June 2 (rain date, June 9). Tickets are $5 for each raffle. The first raffle is for a 55-inch 4K UHD TV, and the second is for a $250 Visa gift card sponsored by Windsor House Inc. Winners do not need to be present, and all proceeds will benefit the center. Ladies in Little Black Dresses for Literacy fundraising event, sponsored by the Literary Society of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County, will begin at 6 p.m. June 7 at The Lake Club, 1140 Paulin Road, Poland. Tickets are available at $40 each, which includes heavy appetizers and one glass of wine. There will be a cash bar. Attendees are asked to wear their favorite little black dress or suit and bring a copy of a book by their favorite author to swap with others at the event. Guests can also donate once-read and brand new children’s books. This event benefits the Library Foundation funds, the Carol A. Bacon Literary Society Fund and the Martha Muransky Children’s Literacy Fund. Lakeside Golf Course, Lake Milton, will be the site for the 13th Annual Sunshine benefit Golf Outing on July 21 which is sponsored by Magilla’s Sports Bar. Proceeds will benefit Rachel Sheridan of Boardman, a sonographer at UPMC Horizon who is battling stage 3 breast cancer. The volunteer committee hosts the event to help cancer sufferers and their families in the Mahoning and Shenango valleys to defray medical costs. The outing is a three person scramble with continental lunch at the turn. A steak fry will take place after the scramble at Magilla’s Sports Bar, 255 Four Mile Run Road, Austintown. Mahoning Valley Historical Society and The Idora Park Experience are teaming up to offer a reunion party for former employees of Idora Park. The event will take place from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. June 2 at the Tyler Mahoning Valley History Center in Youngstown. Attendees will hear behind the scenes stories about the park and be able to record their own memories with staff from society. The event will include a picnic-style buffet. Sutliff Museum is announcing its new exhibit that will run through August. The exhibit is "Being a Victorian: Hygiene History of the 19th Century," and explores the hygiene habits of men and women in the late 1800s. There also is an exhibit of "The Original S'mores" ornaments. Each ornament shows a snowman made of marshmallows depicting various holidays, occupations, milestones of life, and more. Suzie's Dogs & Drafts, 34 N. Phelps St., Youngstown, in cooperation with the Rescue Mission of Mahoning Valley, is sponsoring a "Donate a Hot Dog" campaign to help provide food to the area's homeless population. Throughout the year, Suzie's customers can donate a hot dog for the hungry and write a note of support. Donations will be matched dog-for-dog by the restaurant. On the second Wednesday of every month, employees will provide a meal and bring all the notes for the overnight residents and meal visitors at the Rescue Mission. The goal is food for the body and encouragement for the spirit. The project is inspired by the shooting death last November of Colin Brown. Brown worked in the restaurant industry, managing newly opened restaurants and helping get them off the ground. He was a volunteer with the Common Wealth Kitchen Incubator in Youngstown, was known for his pay it forward attitude and always helping those in need.

Veterans' Outreach will host its Third Annual Golf Scramble July 6 at Mahoning Country Club, 710 E. Liberty St., Girard. Cost is $55 per person or $240 per team. Cost is $20 for the meal only. There will be a 50-50 raffle, basket raffle, doughnuts and coffee in the morning, beverages, dinner buffet and more. Lake Milton American Legion 737 Auxiliary will host a fundraiser casino bus trip to the Rivers Casino in Pittsburgh on June 7. Cost is $30 per person; players will receive $20 in freeplay and $5 food voucher from the casino. The bus will board at 9 a.m. at the Lake Milton American Legion 737 Hall, 16465 Milton Ave., and will return approximately 5:30 p.m.

Ohio Living Senior Center will sponsor a trip to Thistledown Racino June 6. Fab-u-les$ Tours will arrive at 9 a.m. at Youngstown Skate, 7080 Tiffany Blvd., Boardman, (please use side parking lot only, do not park in front), to meet all those who are not members of the senior center. Upon arrival at Thistledown all will be presented with a $25 free slot play incentive plus a gift bag. The bus will depart for home at 4 p.m.
