Poland schools announce staff layoffs, other moves

POLAND

The Poland Local School Board approved layoffs at tonight’s meeting including one teacher.

Superintendent David Janofa said the positions, along with five resignations and retirements, equal about 11 full-time-equivalent positions.

A performance audit conducted by the Ohio Auditor’s office suggested reducing the district’s staff by 18.5 full-time-equivalent positions.

With the exception of one kindergarten teacher, the remaining positions are part time. They include a food-service secretary, cafeteria and custodial personnel, non-confidential secretaries, porters and monitors.

Janofa attributed the reduction of the teaching position to a decline in enrollment. He said some of the staffing reductions are due to the closing of Dobbins Elementary School.
