Free concert at local church Sunday

POLAND

Poland Presbyterian Church, 2 Poland Manor, will host “Come Christians, Join and Sing” at 6:30 p.m. Sunday. Featured will be the church’s chancel choir, the children’s choirs, the Village Ringers and the Sheet and Tube Brass Quartet. Steve Pridon will direct.

The event is free. All free-will donations benefit the Rescue Mission of the Mahoning Valley’s capital campaign “Move Our Mission.” Cookies and refreshments will be served after the event.

Library to host author event

POLAND

Poland Library, 311 S. Main St., will host Renate Frydman at noon Wednesday in the meeting room. She is the author of “Anschel’s Story: Determined to Survive,” which tells the story of her late husband’s survival in Nazi-occupied Poland. Frydman will sign books and books will be available for purchase. A light lunch will be provided. Reservations must be made by Sunday by calling the library’s development office at 330-740-6086. The event is sponsored by the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County Literary Society and the Jewish Community Relations Council of the Youngstown Area Jewish Federation.

Gardeners to host Coffee series

Coffee with the Master Gardeners series will take place from 9:30 a.m. to noon Monday at the Ohio State University Extension office, 490 S. Broad St. The volunteers will demonstrate how to choose and prepare a site, select plants and maintain a prairie garden as part of your landscape. Cost is $15 and includes handouts and refreshments. Spring pruning clinic set at OSU Extension

A spring pruning clinic will take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Ohio State Extension Office, 490 S. Broad St. Eric Barrett will demonstrate proper pruning techniques and tools to keep the landscape looking its best. Participants may practice on trees and shrubs in the garden.
