Man accused of camera theft from city health department

YOUNGSTOWN — A man who was due in municipal court Wednesday instead was taken to the Mahoning County jail after reports said he was caught on security cameras stealing a camera from the city Health Department in its new offices at 9 W. Front St.

A security employee said in a police report he saw Nathan Royal, 76, of Canfield Road, on a security camera take a camera bag from a second floor office of the health department. The guard caught Royal before he could make it out of the building and took him into custody.

Reports said Royal told the security employee he took the camera and bag because he needed bus money. The camera is valued at about $750, reports said.

Royal is expected to be arraigned in municipal court Friday.
