DANCES

Assembly 731 of the National Slovak Society will sponsor a dinner and dance from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Lowellville Rod & Gun Club, 6225 Quarry Road, Lowellville. Simply Slavic will host its 8th annual Simply Slavic festival from 7 to 10 p.m. June 15 for “Party on the Plaza - Slavic-style” and from noon to midnight June 16 on East Federal Street. Mahoning Valley Association of Churches will sponsor a "Taste of the Faiths Festival," at 5:30 p.m. today at St. Charles Church, social hall, 7345 Westview Drive, Boardman. FUNDRAISERS

Auxiliary of the Oblate Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus will host its fourth annual fundraiser from 6 to 11 p.m. June 2 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Basilica in Youngstown. The evening will feature Italian food and a cookie table. There will be dancing, an auction, a raffle and prize of $1,000. Bedford Trails Golf Course, 713 Bedford Road, Coitsville, will host its annual "Bub" Heldman Memorial Golf Outing on May 26. Proceeds will benefit the Heldman SHS Scholar-Athlete Scholarship. There will be a shotgun start at 8 a.m. with lunch, dinner, golf prizes, raffles and an opportunity to meet the 2018 scholarship winner.

Girard Multi-Generational Center's annual fundraiser"Cars are the Stars 4"will include two special raffles this year. Winners will be announced the day of the show, June 2 (rain date, June 9). Tickets are $5 for each raffle. The first raffle is for a 55-inch 4K UHD TV, and the second is for a $250 Visa gift card sponsored by Windsor House Inc. Winners do not need to be present, and all proceeds will benefit the center. Children's Miracle Network's ninth annual Fun Ride and Poker Run will take place at 10 a.m. Sunday. Proceeds benefit Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley, Beeghly Campus, Boardman. Route maps and rules will be available at registration beginning at 10 a.m. at BikeTown Harley-Davidson, 5700 Interstate Blvd., Austintown. The ride will begin at noon, which includes four card stops on a 90-mile route that ends at Social 45, 6885 state Route 45, Lisbon. Friends of the Mahoning River will host a canoe and kayak paddle at 10:30 a.m. June 9 from the newly constructed Girard Launch in collaboration with Trumbull Canoe trails. Paddlers will leave the dock at 10:30 and travel to the B&O Station for a picnic.

Mahoning Valley Historical Society and The Idora Park Experience are teaming up to offer a reunion party for former employees of Idora Park. The event will take place from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. June 2 at the Tyler Mahoning Valley History Center in Youngstown. Attendees will hear behind-the-scenes stories about the park and be able to record their own memories with staff from the society. The event will include a picnic-style buffet. Sutliff Museum is announcing its new exhibit that will run through August. The exhibit is “Being a Victorian: Hygiene History of the 19th Century,” and explores the hygiene habits of men and women in the late 1800s. There also is an exhibit of “The Original S’mores” ornaments. Each ornament shows a snowman made of marshmallows depicting various holidays, occupations, milestones of life, and more. Upon arrival at Thistledown all will be presented with a $25 free slot play incentive plus a gift bag. The bus will depart for home at 4 p.m.
