The Austintown Local School District will sponsor its summer food service program for children. Free meals will be made available to all children at Austintown Elementary School, 245 Idaho Road-Lynn Kirk Loop. Meals will be served from June 4 to Aug. 17, Monday through Friday. Breakfast will be served from 7:45 to 9 a.m. and lunch will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Contact Alexis Weber, food service director, at 330-797-3900, ext. 2032 for information.

Student inducted into Lambda Sigma

Mary Double of Salem has been inducted into Lambda Sigma at Muskingum University.

The Lambda Sigma Society is a national honor society for second year men and women. It is dedicated to fostering leadership, scholarship, fellowship and spirit of service among college students and promoting the interests of the college or university.

Magistrate speaks about student safety

Brookfield Middle School was the first of several local schools to hear recently from Magistrate Horton about school safety. He reminded students about the seriousness and consequences of making any type of threat against a school.

Dinner planned to honor students

The Trumbull County Chapter of the National Association of Wolves will honor 12 Trumbull County High School seniors at its annual dinner at 7 p.m. Thursday at Leo’s Ristorante, 7042 E. Market St. The association will award $44,000 this year. Alexa Jones, Alisa Mancini, Sarah Ryser and Ryan Saverko will receive the first annual Justin Leo Memorial Scholarships worth $5,000. Elizabeth Mintus will receive the Peter P. Rossi Memorial Academic Scholarship Award. Anyone with questions can call David Leo at 330-984-5843.

Professor publishes journal reviews

Dane S. Claussen, Ph.D., professor of media, communication and public relations at Thiel College, published four book reviews in three leading communication journals during the fall 2017 semester. Claussen, who is chairman of the department of media, communication and public relations and executive director of the James Pedas Communication Center, had his review of “The International History of Communication Study” published in Journalism & Mass Communication Quarterly in the winter 2017 edition.

He also had his review of “Digital Badges in Education: Trends, Issues and Cases” published in Journalism & Mass Communication Educator as well as reviews published in Journalism History and Journalism & Mass Communication Quarterly. He is the former publisher and editor of several newspapers in Wisconsin, Oregon and Washington.
