Youngstown State’s Jaynee Corbett picked up a school record and Tyler Donati and Brendan Lucas picked up wins on Friday and Saturday and the Bringham Young University Last Chance Meet.

Corbett threw a new career and school-best 15.95m in the shot put. She beat the field by 1.59m.

Donati won the javelin on Friday with a throw of 61.04m and Brendan Lucas won the 200m dash. While he took second in the event, Girard graduate Collin Hardin set a school record in the 400m with a time of 51.19 seconds.

Boardman man earns PGA pro certification

Boardman’s Andrew Santor was one of 20 PGA Professionals across the country to earn advanced certification. Santor, the head pro at Mill Creek Golf Course, earned his advanced certification in teaching and coaching.

Cavs’ George Hill graduates from college

The Cavaliers’ George Hill has gone from point guard to point grad in the NBA playoffs.

Cleveland’s starting guard missed practice Saturday and had a good excuse for his absence — he graduated from college.

Hill received his diploma from IUPUI and took part in commencement ceremonies in Indianapolis while his teammates got in one last workout before heading to Boston for Game 1 of the Eastern Conference finals.

The 32-year-old Hill, who played for the Jaguars from 2004-08, a received his degree from the School of Liberal Arts. He was one of two student speakers to address the new graduates.

On his Twitter account, Hill showed off a “Jaguars” tattoo on his left arm.

Cavs coach Tyronn Lue said Hill would rejoin the team in time for the series opener today against the Celtics.

Lomachenko stops

Linares in 10th

NEW YORK

Vasiliy Lomachenko stopped Jorge Linares in the 10th round of their lightweight championship fight Saturday night, winning a title in his third weight class in just his 12th pro bout.

Lomachenko landed a hard left to the body during a flurry of precision punches that sent Linares went to a knee. Linares finally got up just as the count was reaching 10 but referee Ricky Gonzalez called an end to the fight at 2:08 of the round.

“I prepared for the last few rounds, and my father told me, ‘You need to go to the body,”’ Lomachenko said. His father, Anatoly Lomachenko, is his trainer.

Linares knocked down Lomachenko in the sixth and the fight was all even after nine rounds before Lomachenko (11-1, 9 KOs) put an overpowering end to his first fight at 135 pounds, adding that title to his belts at 126 and 130 pounds.

Linares (44-4, 27 KOs) hadn’t lost since 2012 and used his size advantage to do some damage, but in the end Lomachenko did more in an exciting Madison Square Garden match.

Hamburg relegated from the Bundesliga

Hamburger SV was finally relegated from the Bundesliga amid chaotic scenes on Saturday

The only ever-present since the league was founded in 1963, “der Dino” went down fighting after 54 seasons by beating Borussia Moenchengladbach 2-1.

The game ended with lines of police on the pitch after fans behind one of the goals lit flares and pyrotechnics that threw a huge cloud of smoke over that side of the stadium. Some flares also landed on the pitch.

After flirting with relegation in recent seasons, Hamburg needed a win and a favor from already relegated Cologne against Wolfsburg to maintain hope of another escape.

But Wolfsburg’s 4-1 victory left Hamburg two points short of the relegation playoff place.

Instead, Wolfsburg will play Holstein Kiel in a two-leg playoff.
