Ex-Smith Twp. police chief indicted for theft in office

YOUNGSTOWN — A former Smith Township police chief has been indicted for stealing more than $10,000 while in office.

John Siranovic faces charges of theft in office and grand theft.

A Mahoning County grand jury secretly indicted Siranovic on Thursday.

The charges resulted from thefts from the department’s evidence room, authorities said.

Siranovic was sworn in as a Sebring Police Department patrolman in October 2017 after leaving his job in Smith Township.

He is on administrative leave pending resignation.
