GCU Lodge and St. Mary's Church will host a Night of Bingo on Sunday at the Assumption Social Center, 356 Belle Vista Ave., Youngstown. Proceeds will benefit the following groups: the Rescue Mission of the Mahoning Valley, St. Vincent DePaul Society Kitchen and the Beatitude House of the Tri-County Area. CRAFT SHOWS

DANCES

Boardman United Methodist Church, 6809 Market St., is offering community dance lessons at 6 p.m. Wednesdays in the church fellowship hall. Each lesson is one hour, and the cost is $5 per lesson. FESTIVALS

Simply Slavic will host its eighth annual Simply Slavic festival from noon to midnight June 16 on Federal Plaza East. Organizers are seeking authentically Slavic retail, craft, fine art and food vendors for its marketplace and food tents. There is space for 15 food vendors and 10 marketplace vendors. The event is sponsored by the Croatian Fraternal Union of America Lodge 66. Proceeds will support Simply Slavic Festival Scholarship Fund.

FUNDRAISERS

Auxiliary of the Oblate Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus will host its fourth annual fundraiser from 6 to 11 p.m. June 2 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Basilica in Youngstown. The evening will feature Italian food and a cookie table. There will be dancing, an auction, a raffle and prize of $1,000. Bedford Trails Golf Course, 713 Bedford Road, Coitsville, will host its annual “Bub” Heldman Memorial Golf Outing on May 26. Proceeds will benefit the Heldman SHS Scholar-Athlete Scholarship. There will be a shotgun start at 8 a.m. with lunch, dinner, golf prizes, raffles and an opportunity to meet the 2018 scholarship winner included.

Girard Multi-Generational Center's annual fundraiser “Cars are the Stars 4” will include two special raffles this year. Winners will be announced the day of the show, June 2 (rain date, June 9). Tickets are $5 for each raffle. The first raffle is for a 55-inch 4K UHD TV, and the second is for a $250 Visa gift card sponsored by Windsor House Inc. Winners do not need to be present, and all proceeds will benefit the center. Salem Regional Medical Center's Foundation and the Catalpa Grove Farm are joining together to host a Mother’s Day fundraiser from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday at Catalpa Grove Farm, 41473 state Route 14 in Columbiana. Those shopping at Catalpa Grove Farm for Mother’s Day can present a special flyer at check-out, and Catalpa’s will donate 10 percent of all eligible purchases to the SRMC Foundation. The flyers must be picked up in advance at SRMC’s Look Nook Gift Shop or by calling the SRMC Foundation office at 330-337-2883. Proceeds will be used to support the cancer services provided at the University Hospital’s Seidman Cancer Center at SRMC.

Temple Emmanuel Seventh-Day Adventist Church will host its fourth annual International Food Fair fundraiser from 1 to 4 p.m. June 10 at the Youngstown Saxon Club, 710 S. Meridian Road. Proceeds benefit The Carter House, a drug and alcohol rehabilitation house that provides resources and support for addicts; and the Haitian Missions, which organizes several mission trips throughout the year to help rebuild the country of Haiti. Children's Miracle Network's ninth annual Fun Ride and Poker Run will take place at 10 a.m. May 20. Proceeds benefit Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley, Beeghly Campus, Boardman. Route maps and rules will be available at registration beginning at 10 a.m. at BikeTown Harley-Davidson, 5700 Interstate Blvd., Austintown. The ride will begin at noon and includes four card stops on the 90-mile route that ends at Social 45, 6885 state Route 45, Lisbon. There will be food, refreshments, a live band, basket auction and a concert ticket raffle for John Fogerty and ZZ Top “Blues and Bayous” Tour 2018. Cost is $20 per bike and $5 per passenger. Friends of the Mahoning River will host a canoe and kayak paddle at 10:30 a.m. June 9 from the newly constructed Girard Launch in collaboration with the Trumbull Canoe trails. Paddlers will leave the dock at 10:30 and will arrive at the B&O Station for a picnic.

Jewish Community Relations Council and the Mahoning County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society will host a lecture on Jewish genealogy, “An Evening with Israel Pickholtz: A Jewish Genealogist’s Discovery of Family History” at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Jewish Community Center, 505 Gypsy Lane, Youngstown. Pickholtz, a native of Pittsburgh who has been living in Israel since 1973, began working seriously on his families’ genealogies in 1994. Since his early retirement in 2008, he has been accepting genealogy clients from Israel and abroad. His flagship work is the Pickholtz Project, a single surname project which serves to identify and reconnect all Pickholtz descendants. Alongside his work as a professional genealogist, Pickholtz became heavily involved in genetic genealogy in 2013. Pieceful Pursuits and Where the Corners Meet Quilt guilds’ quilt show will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Lakeside Evangelical Church, 3203 N. Hermitage Road, Transfer, Pa. Participants can view 200-plus quilts. Scissors sharpening will be available on site as well as a bazaar table and quilt shop vendors. Raffle quilt drawings will be the same day as the show. Mahoning Valley Historical Society and The Idora Park Experience are teaming up to offer a reunion party for former employees of Idora Park. The event will take place from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. June 2 at the Tyler Mahoning Valley History Center in Youngstown. Attendees will hear behind the scenes stories about the park and be able to record their own memories with staff from society. The event will include a picnic-style buffet. Attendees will receive a commemorative Idora Park gift and also are invited to attend a special open house at the Idora Park Experience on June 1. Employees are welcome to take a guest.
