Team USA ties series with Phantoms after 10-goal game.

PLYMOUTH, MICH.

Team USA dropped double-digit goals on the Youngstown Phantoms in a 10-6 victory Wednesday night.

The win ties the USHL Eastern Conference Finals series at 1, coming after the Phantoms bested USA, 4-3 in overtime, on Tuesday.

USA scored the first four goals of the game in the first period after outshooting the Phantoms 13-4. The Phantoms responded with five goals in the second period, but USA kept the lead with three goals in the same stretch.

Youngstown’s Samuel Salonen scored less than two minutes into the third period to put his team within a goal of tying the game, but USA’s Marshall Warren and Patrick Moynihan each scored in less than 30 seconds and Erik Middendorf added an empty-net goal.

In goal, the Phantoms jumped back and forth. Ivan Prosvetov was pulled in the first period after giving up three goals on nine shots. Wouter Peeters lasted until about midway through the second period after conceding four goals in nine shots befor Prosvetov reentered the game.

The Phantoms host Game 3 Friday at Covelli Centre.
