The Ursuline Center hosted its eleventh annual Valentine’s Dinner on Feb. 13 to raise funds for the Ursuline Center Ministries.
The proceeds for the dinner went toward the Ursuline Sisters HIV/AIDS, the Beatitude House and Ursuline’s preschool and kindergarten programs. The night included dinner, dessert and entertainment.
Mary Assion, the chairperson for the event, said they normally have the dinner on Valentine’s Day, but the holiday fell on Ash Wednesday this year, so they decided to have the dinner the night before.
Each attendee paid $26 for the event. The Center had a number of door prizes and a 50/50 raffle at the door. The couples then sat at their designated table and began eating the fruit and cracker appetizers and getting drinks, which included soda, coffee, wine and water. The servers then gave the couples salads between the appetizers and dinner.
The Broad Street Diner in Canfield provided the dinner for the event. The dinner included Chicken Fran üaise, pasta, green beans and rolls. After the dinner, the servers handed out a chocolate mousse dessert donated by Linnea’s in Kent. Sister Patricia McNicholas read Joyce Rupp’s poem “Will You be My Valentine?“ as a prayer before the dinner.
Austintown’s Party On store donated balloons, centerpieces and decorations for the event. The pink and red decorations fit with Valentine’s Day theme. Those at the dinner continued the theme in their wardrobes, many wearing red dresses or ties.
The night ended with entertainment. Boardman’s Singers and Chorale entertained the attendees at the dinner. The Singers, an all-female chorus, performed first, then the mixed-gender chorale sang. Linda Smrek directed both choirs.
