Students from Austintown Middle School showed their abilities at the school’s Night of the Stars Talent Show on March 6 in the AMS cafetorium.
The PTA began organizing the event six weeks before the night with auditions in January and practices through February. Thirty-one students performed in 26 different acts.
“We wanted to bring the kids together and showcase their talents,“ said the school’s PTA president Lynn Mickey. She also said that the program gave a platform to children to show their talents outside of formal school activities.
The PTA aimed the show toward getting families together to see the performances. They did a preview of the show during school, but none of the students watched the full show, so they would have more incentive to see the entire performance later that night.
The show included a range of talents, such as dancers, piano players, a yo-yo performance, a comedian and a rock band. The program had pictures of each of the performers next to their name. They also wrote small blurbs for each of the students.
This year marked the third year that the PTA has had the event. They decorated the stage with balloons and banners. They operated the sound and lighting for the event as well.
