CLUBS

First Friday Club of Greater Youngstown Luncheon Speaker Series will present Joy Schroeder, Ph.D., at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at The Georgetown in Boardman. Dr. Schroeder, a Lutheran pastor and professor of religion at Capitol University and Trinity Seminary, will speak on “Martin Luther – A Man Who Changed the Course of History.” Cost is $16. DANCES

Friendly Squares will host its monthly square dance from 7:30 to 10 p.m. April 14 at the Niles SCOPE Center, 14 E. State St. Gene Hammond will be the caller, and Frankie Hammond will be calling line dances. This will be a high/low dance with alternating tips for new dancers currently taking lessons and tips for more experienced dancers. Dress is casual, and light refreshments will be served. LEAGUES

GFWC Ohio Boardman Poland Junior Women’s League will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at Glenellen, 9661 Market St., North Lima. League members will be preparing for a raffle based on the Ohio Lottery. Tickets are $5 and are available from any league member. Tickets will be based on the daily straight number evening drawing beginning in May. Liz Danyi will be the guest speaker and will share about her trip to Africa. Members are asked to take a bag of sugar to the meeting to be donated to Rescue Mission of the Mahoning Valley. Hostesses will be Debbie Chop, Maureen Kordupel and Debbie Weaver. BPJWL is open to all women over 18 who reside in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties and are interested in friendship, fun and community development. LIBRARY FRIENDS Friends of the Poland Library will meet at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Poland Library meeting room. Coffee hour will be followed by a program and business meeting. Judy Stanislaw, instructor at Fellows Riverside Gardens, will present “Herbs and Perennials” and will discuss the purchase, planting and care of plants. The meeting is open to the public, and new members are welcome. Membership dues are $10 per year. Hostesses will be Bertha Eszenzi, Millie Terihay, Marie Klase and Angie Bilkie. Donations of books, magazines, CDs and DVDs are accepted at each meeting for the Poland Friends Book Cart.

POLITICAL CLUBS

Canfield Republican Women’s Club will host the second of its two candidate nights at 6 p.m. Wednesday at A La Cart Catering in Canfield. All Republican state and local candidates have been invited. Each candidate will have several minutes to introduce themselves and highlight their platform for the upcoming election. If time permits, individual questions from members and guests will be answered. The buffet dinner is $15 per person. Take your own beverage. Spouses and friends are encouraged to attend. Trumbull County Federated Democratic Women’s Club will meet at 6 p.m. Monday at the Warren S.C.O.P.E. Center located in the YWCA building on North Park Avenue. Warren Women’s Connection, an affiliate of Stonecroft Ministries, will host a luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. April 16 at DiLucia’s Banquet Center, 2610 Elm Road, NE. Speaker will be Sean Posey, who will discuss “Theaters of Trumbull County.” Lori Kempton and Ilene Stroup also will be featured. Cost is $10 for first-time atendees, and all others are $13. SOCIETIES

SUPPORT GROUPS

Alzheimer Network Family Support Groups will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Zion’s Reformed United Church of Christ, 260 Main Street, Greenville; 10 a.m. Wednesday at Childrens Rehabilitation, 855 Howland-Wilson Road, Howland; and noon Saturday at Sunrise Senior Living, 335 W. Codependency and Grief Support Group will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the care center of the Kelley-Robb-Cummins Funeral Home, North Main St., Hubbard. The support group was formed to reach out to help families who have lost loved ones to alcohol or substance abuse.

Good Hope Lutheran Church, 98 Homestead Drive, Boardman, will host a 13-week grief support series through the GriefShare ministry from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays through May 1. The GriefShare team provides a safe, understanding place for individuals to move through their personal grief journeys. Participants need not be church members. Each session is self-contained, so participants may enter at any session. Each session will include videos featuring some of the nation’s foremost experts on grief recovery. Sessions also include small group support and a workbook for personal study. Participants are welcome to share stories, but are never forced. Attendance at consecutive sessions is encouraged for maximum benefit. Cost is $20. Checks should be made payable to Good Hope. Scholarships also are available at registration. NAMI Mahoning Valley offers support groups for those who deal with mental illness. Support groups meet as follows: Girard Family Support, first Thursday of each month at 11 a.m. at the Girard Library, 105 E.
